Learning Something New (Coran Velancie)

Post by Phoenix on Mon 26 Sep 2016, 18:08

Tori walked towards the door of the hole in the wall "book store", pulling the door open to exit she wrinkled her nose, the alley smelt like stale beer and human urine. Hidden for the world to anyone that didn't know where to find it, the front of the building wouldn't give it away the secrets held behind the simple but solid wooden door.

Moving out into the alley she made her way to the main street, it was packed as usual for the time of day. Pushing the one shoulder bag behind her she sighed softly, she stood out like a sore thumb dressed in skinny's heels and a loose tank top covered by her favorite leather jacket compared to everyone else in their glitter and short shorts.

Going against the main crowd was a bad idea so she went with the flow to reach the road that would allow her to double back, Oxen corp vans and officers passed regularly but paid no heed to her, to them she is a simple human not prepared for a night on the town. Looking around she made sure to avoid their eyes as best she could with the two wiccan scrolls in her bag last thing she needed was someone to search her and think she was an occult worshiper, since the 'cleanse' they didn't take kindly to humans showing an interest in the different.

Looking ahead she grumbled to herself as three Oxen Corp men stood observing the crowd with laser vision, deciding it was best to avoid them she slipped into a dark alley without checking it out, moving down between a casino and an oversized night club she pulled the dark hood up to hide her pale blonde hair in the darkness.

He had been out scouting the town in the same way he had done every night since his return. Getting to know his streets was becoming something of a hobby to him again. It felt like he had finally found somewhere to call home at least for now. The last time he tried to call the city home did not end to well for him, yet again he found himself back there.
If only he could have done something about one irritating problem, soldiers were everywhere like an infestation of ants. Just when you thought you had avoided one group of them another would spring up through the cracks.

He was not dressed in a way that would stand out, nor was he doing anything out of the ordinary yet he found himself often ducking out of view. The soldiers seemingly carrying technology which he was sure some how could out him for what he was, at least so he thought. For all he knew they could have already known what he looked like if they looked back at the history of the city itself.

Having turned down an alley way he stood with his head turned upwards reading some graffiti on the side of what sounded like a night club, laughing to himself at a crude cartoon he swigged a half drunken bottle of beer he had snagged on his nightly walk, his head turning to look to his right as he realized that the alleyway now had two occupants, a girl in a distracted rush seemed to be walking towards him, none the wiser that he was there in front of him.
“Ah, you hiding out as well?” a smirk pulled his lips back as he grinned over at her, she smelled human to him but by the look of concern upon her face she obviously had something to hide.
“What'cha doing there?”

Tori should have checked the alley, she cursed herself silently as the males voice caught her off guard, Gwyn would kill her. Looking the man over she frowned slightly, the cocky attitude lead her to believe he was one of the immortals but his appearance did not give away which one. She could your her identifying charm but that would alert him to what she was.

Pursing her lips as she took him in, she could not deny he was attractive and something in her, probably the human blood, wanted to go to him but her magical core was almost revolted by the idea " I'm just taking a short cut... crowds are ridiculous...." hooking one thumb in the strap of her bag she positioned her feet comfortably.

Pulling on her power her skin flushed slight touch of pink, almost like an embarrassed blush, she could feel the power like liquid gold ruining through her veins " I'm just trying to get out of the city ... without having to deal with the miniature army patrolling every two minutes and trying to use a " using one hand to create bunny ears for quotation marks " 'scheduled search' as an excuse to feel women up..."

Placing the free hand on her hip she let her green eyes look him and his beer over one more time " Why are you hiding out?"

"Oh Yeah? Man thouse crowds are tough huh? I mean you could probaby jump up and just surf on them" he smiled toying with the girl. She knew as well as him that even though the streets were busy it was nothing unusual for the city at night and he would not have classed there as being crowds out on the streets.
He glanced over his shoulder and then back to her, she seemed uneasy and for a moment he played with the idea of influencing a calm upon her but something put him off. She seemed a little different from your run of the mill Saint's human. Dodging the soldiers only furthered that notion.

The flush of her skin didn't fool him, neither did the little comment about avoiding being groped. It was starting to make more sense to him the longer they stood in the alley way. She was a human he could smell that easily enough yet she was hiding something. The flush only making his suspisions more keen as it wasn't warm out and he had done nothing yet to make her really blush, well not intentionally.

Smirking he shrugged his shoulders moving away from facing the wall to face her. Maybe the night could be more interesting then he thought. At least it seemed to be getting off to a good start.
""I'm hiding out because I am not hiding" he laughed wondering whether she understood.
Coran wouldn't cower in the face of soldiers, he would not pretend to be something he was not. He would avoid them yes to keep himself safe from capture but he would not lower himself by playing a human.
"It is easier not to be seen"

Wrinkling her nose she reached up and pushed her hood down, side stepping slowly so she had a view of both the male and the street she had just left. No point in being any more stupid then she already had been. She could feel his eyes analyzing her. " Avoidance is just another form of hiding... Do you have a name??" she might as well know his name.

Letting enough power to at least get a basic read on him she got the feel of vampire, but then that would make sense they were one of the luckier breeds to survive mainly to do with their combat abilities. Something was still off but she put that down to the situation. Humming gently to herself she tilted her head " strip club " she nodded towards the building behind him " interesting choice of hide out... you waiting for the change of guard?" a smirk crossed her lips.

Dropping her hand from the strap of her bag she freed out her hands showing she meant him no harm at least as long as he didn't threaten her. She might have only recovered from the spell that restored the woman in Arcane but she could still pull on the coven.

"Well that really depends on how you look at it doesnt't it?" she was trying to challenge him and that made the whole thing even more amusing.
Her hood was lowered and she seemed to be taking a more open stance towards him her attitude changing as she looked to try and work out what type of creature he was.

"You're forward arn't you?" she wanted to know his name. So soon after meeting him and with no offer of his own. He shurgged to himself deciding there was really no issue in giving it. She would either know his surname or she wouldn't. He doubted she was old enough to know his faily personally yet she could have heard of them.
"My name is Coran Velancie. And what might your name be?"

She seemed to notice the building he was standing beside. He lifted his hands in an innocent shrug, he had thought it to be a normal club. The fact it was a strip joint made it even more interesting.
"Well I was waiting for a break in the street yes but you have just made this place sound so interesting I might just slip in this side door here and go get a drink"
Stepping back he inspected the lock figuring it wouldn't be all that difficult to get in.
"How about it? Want a drink?"

Tori smirked and shrugged " Better to know who your dealing with , mama always said if you want answers you ask the questions ..." Listening to his name she smiled softly " Ah so the ruling family is returning... good luck getting this city back ..." when Rosa had brought the coven to this continent she had explained the histories of the major cities and their rulers.

If she remembered correctly he would be a son of the once 'King' of Saints city. "Victoria... but you can call me Tori like everyone else.." Placing a had on her hips she looked down at her clothes then back up at Coran . " You could have always looped round back if it was a break int the crowds you have been waiting for ... dont think I'm exactly dress for a drink in that paticular club ... think I might be a little over dressed..." she chuckled softly to herself.

She had to admit he was intregued her, as a teacher she had this thrust for knowledge, especially if it would help her people. Deciding to live on the edge she took a step forward " Ok Coran if you promise not to let any of the big bad men near me I'll keep you company for a drink..."

Whispering under her breath " Door Unlock, No Magic Block" she smiled as the door popped open, speaking up " Lead the way..."

"Oh no no, hold your horses there toots" he laughed "No one is returning, no one is about to come riding in on white horses to try and save the day and reclaim the city" he laugehd at her response. She seemed to young to know of them so he would assume she had read about them or had information passed down to her about the sway he and especially his father once had on the city.
"And by looking around here at all these little toy soldiers even I can see there is no saving it. Not without a full out war and by the looks of it there are no immortals around to fight such a war"

She introduced herself and started to poke holes in what he had said to her about waiting out.
"Oh Tori well where is the fun in that"
She seemed to think herself over dressed for such a club and he laughed. "Its not like I am asking you to go get up on one of the poles and shake with them is it?"

She relented and agreed to come and have a drink he smiled impressed that he had managed to get her to agree by using nothing but his personality and not te gifts bestowed upon him by his mothers bloodline.

"Oh I promise. I will be the only big bad man to come near you.." he turned his attention to the door as she did some sort of spell to open it, another laugh coming from him as he pushed the door open and pulled her inside.
"Come on then Witchy-woo what do you want to drink?"

Tori shrugged " The balance is out all over this continent.. not just this city" deciding to poke fun at him she smiled sweetly " Nothing an A bomb wouldn't fix .." all she could think of was Rosa would kill her ... hell Gwyn would kill her but he was a puzzle and she always did have a weakness for puzzles.

Waving a hand she shooed him on into the club where the music blared and barely dressed girls flung themselves around a cold metal pole for single dollar bills, a shiver passed down her spine. " Whiskey ... neat with two ice cubes." looking up at him she pointed her finger at him her charm bracelet catching the light and chuckled " and no cheap shit, I'll know"

Making her way to the bar she hopped onto the stool making sure to keep the bag over her shoulder, crossing her legs she touched the bracelet fixing back the way she liked it as she waited for her drink.

Joking about a bomb he laughed leading her through the club of leering men and dancing couples, it was chaos of bodies meeting in dance and sweat and he loved it.
Taking her hand he pulled her through the massed listening to what she wanted to drink before he let her go and she led the way to the bar.

Following suit he stood "Ah a girl after my own heart. Withcy-woo knows what she wants"
Leaning over the counter he waved his left hand to gain the attantion of the bar staff before shouting over his order.
"The best bottle of whiskey you have and two glasses... an ice bucket too please"
Slapping down enough money to cover it he hopped up onto a stool next to her while he watched the barman go off to get what he had asked for.

Twisting around on his chair he watched the crowds for a while his eyes moving across the dancers without leering, he liked the way they moved, almost admired the athletic side of it more then he looked at them in a sexual way.
Coran usually could have anyone he wanted, it allowed him to appreciate things a little differently then most men did.

"So how long have you been in Saints? From what I have seen it isn't all that kind to people like you around here?"

Smiling when the bartender returned with the whiskey and the bottle she reached out to pour listening to the music while he checked out the crowd. Pouring to good glasses of the amber liquid her's with ice she let him decide what to do with his own she nudged the glass towards him.

Turning in her seat to look the crowd over she took in the atmosphere, it was buzzing, she admired the women's balls they were human with no gifts as far as she could tell, but they took the leering men and sloppy drunks in their stride, took a lot of confidence. Looking back at Coran she shrugged " This is only my second visit to Saint's... but w.. I have been on the continent about 6 months give or take a few days..."

Taking a generous sip of her drink she smiled at him " My kind ... I'm Human with some added hard to detect gifts, my blood comes back human ... " whispering gently so none of the people around them heard her but she was sure his vampire hearing would pick up " Your kind are a different story altogether... harder to hide whats in your blood..." taking another drink her green eyes met his before going back to the crowd.

Twisting once again in his chair he took the glass she slid towards him, picking out a small scoop of ice he poured them in before mixing a healthy amount of whiskey in with it. Swirling it around in his glass to get the full measure of the ice's chill he drank back a decent sized gulp with a satisfied sigh as he felt it warm its way through him. "Ah that is good whiskey" he smiled glad he had let the bartender pick the best one they had instead of just going for one of the same old brand names he knew off the top of his head.

Turning back to crowd watch with her she whispered her response and he nodded doubting very much that anyone would have heard them over the music anyway. Not that it bothered him, he could hear her easily.
"So on your second visit you just happen to walk slap bang into me... lucky girl" he poked fun before taking another drink back.

"Oh darling, I don't have a kind" he laughed. He had never been captured by humans before and he was pretty sure they most probably would have found his blood pretty interesting but as far as Coran was concerned he did no belong to one specific race, he was more his own man. He did not like to put himself into a box with the rest of them, that only led to expectations and he had been subjected to enough of that from his father in the army.
"I am a one of a kind. Limited edition baby" he laughed quietly. "A mongrel"

She couldn't help but laugh as he joked about running into him " I know I have just got all the luck me... but hey you bought me whiskey I wont complain too badly..." watching one girl do a lap of the floor with a tray in her hand she noticed the men slapping and pinching the woman's ass, 'pigs' she thought to herself.

Listening talk about not having a kind she frowned a little " mongrel is not the word i'd pick... hybrid ... they are often stronger then the original blood lines and have the added bonus of not being effected by one or the others weaknesses to the same effect" her teaching side was showing but she didn't say anything " At least you have family, if my memory serves you had a younger brother, has he retur...." she stopped mid question.

Biting her lip she silently wished to take back the words, she shouldn't quiz him god knows what happened to his family in the eradication. Deciding to change the subject she asked him " Are you long back in the city??"

Following her gaze he watched one of the floor servers making her way through a group of handsy men, he frowned slightly and with the wave of his hand he called the woman over. Purchasing two shots he handed one to Tori and took one for himself. Paying the girl he gave her a slight smile as she looked on passed him relieved she had been called away from te group.
"Lucky lucky you yes" he responded his attention turning back to the witch again.

"Oh, a hybrid huh?" he chuckled to himself, she seemed to know a lot about it. Or at least had read some books on the subject. He didn't find the facination, he was a mixture of two different creatures, two that probably should not have crossed blood lines.
"I have been called many things" he grinned "They usually come with the tag of mutt or abomination"
he had not been well accepted by either side of his families blood, causing Rucka to hide him away from harm until he could look after himself.

Rasing his hand he pointed towards her with the shake of his head. She had breached a subject he didn't like and she seemed to instantly recognize that and pull away from it.
"Swap the word 'have' with the word Had. I had a family. Past tence"
He had no idea what had happened to his younger brother, he had looked for him since his return and he had found nothing. All information led to the fact that his parents and brother were long dead.

"I made my way back here a few days ago. It felt like the place I should be in right now" he shrugged. "I haven't been here for at least twenty years"

Tori took the other drink while she listened to him, downing the shot in one go she couldn't help but smile when he saved the woman from the other group mumbling softly to herself keeping her tone joking " big softy..." Clearing her throat she took a sip of the whiskey before continuing on " So you missed the troubles ..." she commented " That was lucky I suppose, if you'd been here you might not have survived..."

Turning her chair so her back was to the crowd she grabbed the whiskey bottle and poured them both another drink adding the ice to his before doing the same for her own. " Uneducated fools by the way ... human 'science' " using the bunny ears she continued " has proven a mix of DNA makes it more likely to evolve a stronger more durable breed..."

Not bothering to turn back she looked over her shoulder watching him for a moment " Are you alone or do you travel with others? It is unusual for vampires to not travel with at least one other for protection, hell vampires aren't the only one to travel in groups.." To her right a group of men cheered as a dancer progressed through her routine.

Hearing her whisper about him being soft he smirked across at her for a moment getting lost in his own imagination. If only she knew, she would never even think to say such a thing. He could have laughed at the thought but he doubted very much she would be around long enough for him to show all the different sides of himself and he wasn't about to go using his 'gifts' upon a witch, he wasn't that desperate.

Laughing he shook his head. "Nothing from this realm could have touched me where I was. Survival wasn't a worry of mine. The dead can not die" he couldn't blame her for such a thing. It wasn't exactly the norm to be able to come back from the dead, despite having done it now twice himself. The last time having spanned twenty years.
It had been twenty years of torture and for now Coran was blissfully ignoring the fact he had been tortured for two decades. They were scars to deal with alone and at a later date.

He took the glass as she poured him another and he shot it back before smiling at her mocking the humans, so different yet so alike her.
"Well maybe they will catch up one day. Maybe not" he shrugged. They had always been the most volitle and dangerous breed of animal.
"I came alone, where I came from was not exactly an area of heavy footfall"

Tori listened to him as she watched those around her, sipping her drink slowly " Must be hard to be alone... for that long" was all she commented. Taking in his appearance once more she could see more and more the burndens he carried. Pulling her bag around she flipped it open knowing he would be able to see the old diary and scrolls she had hidden but not caring he knew what she was and she knew what he was at least in part.

" You are a troubled soul Coran ... but then you'd have to be to drink in this way" taking a large gulp of the whiskey she pulled out a small moonstone and a piece of sage, running her nail along the stone she willed the stone to crack placeing the sage over the crack her eyes darted to him for a moment before returning to the stone.

Reaching into her bag she knicked her thumb causing the blood to well up, lifting the hand she placed the bloodie finger onto the stone and sage. Whispering softly knowing he would be able to pick up the words.

"Sage so fair
From far and wide
Take these troubles
And brush them aside."

Soon the smell of her sweet blood was replaced with sage, sticking her thumb in her mouth she sucked gently cleaning the wound and applying enough pressure to stem the bleeding.Using her other hand she nudged the stone towards Coran " The stone brings good fortune, the sage washes away troubles and the blood allows you to locate me when the stone is grasped... should you ever want a drinking buddy of course not that you should ever need help from a mere mortal."

She was much more intuitive then he noticed and as she spoke of him being troubled he tilted his head with out a reply, for the most part Coran made an effort to seem as laid back as he had once been, pain was something he tried to conceal seeing no point in walking around moping for himself. He could not change the past nor could he forget them but he refused to let them drown him. He found himself wondering if maybe she was some sort of empath or something similar.

Taking another drink he raised the glass in toast this time drinking it a little slower finding it amusing that he obviously all ready seemed like an alcoholic to her.
The uttering of a spell and the spell itself he ignored with no more then a brief glimpse in order not to bring any more attention to her then was needed. The last thing he wanted was to face up with Ox soldiers.

Once finished she moved the stone to him with an explanation looking down at it he frowned but he took it into his hand anyway slipping it into the pocket on the breast of his jacket.
"Thank you.." it was a strange thing for her to do for him, they had only just met and for all she knew he could have been bad news.
"You are a pretty trusting W word" he smirked "I could be a psycho, you may have just given a crazy stalker a direct line to your location"

Tori took the last drink of the whiskey, she smiled at him and actually laughed when he said he could be a psycho "Yes but if you are I wish you all the best against my family.... " Reaching out she pours one last glass of whiskey. She would have to go soon or she would be missed.

Taking a sip she lifted her shoulders " I can manage for myself either way, most of my ..." looking over her shoulder before continuing " gifts are defensive but i do pack a mean offensive when i need too..."

Looking back at him she wrinkled her nose " I like to think I am a good enough judge of character to know when I am talking to a crazy person." stopping with the glass half to her lips she chuckled " well at least I hope I do ... maybe you have just got me drunk enough to let my guard down..." taking the drink she smiled to herself as she listened to what was going on around her.

She seemed pretty confident in her decision to trust him and he chuckled to himself thinking that he was most probably a crazy person, if put in a room with a psychologist he figured he would most likely have been committed. But he had to cut himself some slack he had been in hell and then mayhem for the best part of twenty five years. Before that he had seen war after war where he had witnessed and caused countless deaths. Everything revolving around death and pain. Yet he still managed to keep getting up every day, he even managed to on rare occasions to actually enjoy himself, though not so much since his return to the living.

"If you are drunk all ready I think you are probably a light weight and then you only have yourself to blame" he smiled as she pretended to doubt herself.
She was a witch she could probably cast a plague upon him any time she wished to, he had little desire to annoy her or her supposedly family waiting in the wings.

Finishing his drink he looked across at the selection of bottles at the bar. Seeing she had not poured herself another he figured she probably intending on leaving where as he would make it a night figuring he might as well get blind drunk now he found himself in the bar.
"A lot of you out here?"

Reaching out she decided on another drink, taking the bottle she poured another one for herself. " Haven't been called a light weight in years" taking another drink she watched him for a moment " Might as well make an evening of it" she mumbled half to herself.

"There is a few of us... a selection from our group you could say I suppose ... Have you ever come across people like us before?" she decided to ask him since he would remember a time before Ox Corp.

Chewing on the inside of her cheeks she decided to ask him a few questions " I am researching for a course to see how far they traveled..." she explained assuming he would get what she was talking about, at least as much as she could in such a public setting.

He had assumed their conversation was coming to it's natural end but she proved him otherwise by grabbing herself another bottle making her comment about making a night out of it. He quirked his head in a nod wondering if she picked up on his previous thoughts or whether it was just coincidence that she decided to stay just when he thought the opposite of her.
"Hell I usually make a day of it" he laughed a little sombre laugh. When days were bad he had often been fond of drowning his sorrows.
When not searching for answers or leads on what happened to him he mostly just partied and drank to keep his own inner demons at bay. It was a temporary fix but for not it seemed to be working.

"No, I haven't come across any W words for a long time. Being out of the picture for near on twenty five years sort of put a dampener on my social life" he smiled taking a swig from a beer bottle he had pinched by leaning across the bar.
"My step mother had some magic about her, well that I knew of" he replied after a moment. He knew not what had happened to any of his family, he had been led to believe they were all dead now.
"She was a V word though so I am not sure how that worked for her"
