"Fear reminds us we're alive."

The darkness might have been stifling were it not for the animal instinct within the man, how ever thin it was waning. The pupil of the left eye had dilated to catch what ever light could break through a darkness so bitter it could frighten the most rugged of men; it might have proven against him were it not for the lack of care he now bore. Survival instincts of the wolf had broken through the spirit of a man once shining with the brightest of flames.
A hand, hidden from view slammed against the dingy wall for stability, followed by the other, feeling relentlessly for anything that might present an opportunity for escape. Water dripped down the walls, washing over those fingers, worn and weathered from a life of hard labor and direction.
Ears twitches at the sides of his head, covered by hair, once unkept and yet clean, now ratty and matted with blood and sweat. His human ears were a burden to him now more so  than any help, but it was all he had and so he listened, pausing for respite and full of hope every few yards.  He could hear the constant drip of water both near and far from his position; but it never seemed to changed as he moved through the darkness. The sound seemed to drown out most others - a hinderance that made his confidence wane.
But his determination never faulted.
The liquid below made it hard for his feet to keep pressing on, the sound also, he knew, would not mask his cover but he could not stop. Although he could only see a dull shimmer upon the waters surface, the smell of piss and shit that wafted from it was almost over powering and gave him clear indication that he was approaching the cities sewers.
He heaved once. Twice; and keeled over, the muscles in his abdomen contracting. It was certain that his stomach would have been emptied of its contents, had there been any.
A hand clenched the tough, wet skin upon his body, nails long since cut gripping tightly in an attempt to soften the pain he felt within. The other gripped the cold damp wall.
His brow stiffened, clenching as he took a deep breath. The taste of shit covered his tongue and it was almost impossible to stop another heave from approaching; but thoughts of his family took the moment away from him. He needed to reach them, he'd been away too long. Were they okay? Had they been captured?
He was sure they were smart enough to stay away from the city. They had to be. His teeth clenched tightly.
"Maylin." the name of his daughter was whispered with designation upon his breath with such a power that he pressed on.
The gushing of water surrounding his feet, stirred the stagnant liquid and causing particles of softy, squishy shit to catch between is toes which only added to the putrid stench. It was a vicious cycle that he needed to escape.

-----------
Some time later.
-----------

The sound of tin upon cement caused his head to snap skyward. Light filtered through small gaps of a man hole directly above his head, littering the vision of his only good eye. His right hand shot up to shield him from the sudden transition in light but it was too late. His vision had been impaired by the suddenly unexpected brightness and he cringed away blinking frantically. He growled inwardly.
At what point had his mind wandered? How long had he been walking in a lack of attention. He might have scalded himself if it weren't for the sudden realisation that he had, at some point in his daze, reached the city centre  undetected.
He gasped loudly and without thought, survival telling him to search for the ladder that would take him to the surface and out of the darkness.
Hands clambered over the wall feeling in the shadows where the light did not reach for that cold metal pole to safety.
In the haste his hand smashed against something hard, causing a splintering pain to roll through his hand, but it was quickly forgotten has his palm wrapped around that which had been so desperately sought.
Gripping the ladder tightly the man heaved as he gathered all the strength he could muster, one hand after the other with painstaking time he climbed higher and higher.
He could hear the traffic over head getting closer with every passing triumph. The light came and went as headlights shone through the gaps of the cover.
Without warning, his head smashed against the metal sending him descending into the filth below.
Frantically his arms clambered for anything to grab hold of as the sewerage water covered him like a filthy blanket. Using his elbows as leverage, he burst through the surface, mouth agape in a desperate attempt to fill his lungs with the air that had been knocked from him when he had hit the shallow water. He launched forward, chest slamming into the step that would take him from this lake of shit; but he did not clamber out, instead he lay there, cheek hugging the dingy concrete with closed eyes.
The entirety of the right side of his face was throbbing with a constant reminder of months passed.
A moment of respite was what he had needed; and as he lay silently in the darkness, the remaining four senses listened.
He could hear the people chattering as their heels clicked against the pathway in between the enjoined as they noisily passed over head. Car horns chiming, the rain as it battered the pavement and that constant, mind numbing drip. Drip. Drip.
The smell was over powering, but he had long since ceased watering of the eyes, having grown use to the smell somewhat. He suddenly wondered how people did it - lived in the city.
He could taste the fowl stench upon his tongue, it had glued itself to the back of his throat. Yet, he had not heaved in hours. Or was it days? It mattered not.
His fingers twitched as he thought of where he lay, bunching into a fist. His nails filled with something, he wasn't sure what, scraping it from the cement. The water, still for the most part, cooled his skin and reminded him of a place he would burn to the ground one day.
They'd kept him locked in that fridge, disabling his pyrokenitic abilities through his only weakness. It was smart, he would give them that.
He had never been exposed to such cold for such an extended period of time. What consequences would it have upon him? Would he ever recover? He frowned absent of thought. Of course he would.
He was an alpha. A father. A protector. He was Benjamin Nekishu. Blaze they called him. His eye opened, an a passing car brought with it the site of the ladder once more.
"Blaze.l"
The name seeped from his lips like liquid. It was strange to hear aloud. He felt something stir within his breast.
A warmth that had long since been dormant bed his mind filled with all those he held dear.
Fingers unfurled and took hold steadily against the pavement. He ignored the protest of weary muscles as he pushed himself to his feet, teeth clenched in determination.
Hand by hand he took the ladder and climbed, this time with his wits. His bare feet ached with each passing step, every muscle in his body threatened to send him back down but his mind remained strong.
A placed a palm against the freezing metal of the man hole as a car passed over head. Measuring the distance of vehicles by the sounds of their engines, he waited. Another car passed over head, slower this time. The light must have turned amber.
The engine idled but a breath away from his location. He closed his eyes, scrunched his face and heaved with all his might.
The man hole clattered loudly to the asphalt floor and the rain showered upon his body.
Benjamin lifted himself from the sewer and onto the road above. Knees and elbows scraping the ground he cared not as he crawled but a few feet away and threw himself upon the slate grey path collapsing. Exhaustion took him then and there and he found a different darkness, the street lights aglow illuminating his nude body. Battered and bruised he lay among the watchers as they stare in disbelief.

It had taken her days to from the port through woods and then to the city but she had finally made it. On Her arrival to the ports she was in a daze a fever had stolen her mind
She vaguely remembered killing the shoulders and mad her escape into the woods. Her hand silently crept to the Mark slightly above her heart. It still pained her at times and still it refused to heal properly. Luckily her journey here had cleared her mind and broke through the fever that had her in hallucinations. The woods provided the herbs to clear her mind and keep infection at bay.

She still did not know if wolf and the human she had met where real....her father was dead after all....so she discarded that reality.

She had been in the city for well over a month blending in and following up on leads as to where her pack could be. As the static on her police scanner chimed She hastily fixed the signal for it to cone on clearer.

"....a man...sewer....main street..." before the man finished speaking She had her coat and keys and was already running down the street.

Her legs propelled her past the pedestrians streets and cars. She wasn't far but the city was crowded. As she neared She held back a growl and shoved past everyone. Keeping her face averted from the street cams she realled at the sight and smell of blaze But it was him and alive.

Taking her coat she quickly put it over his naked flesh. Her eyes burned at the sight of her alpha. These humans...oxen Corp...would pay.

She whispered only So her could here still keeping her face and profile from the cameras and also hiding his "blaze...we need to go.." knowing it would hurt but it was necessary she reached through their bond and pushed her strength into him. Her love her warmth her life. "Fight through pain just a bit more blaze..." she whispered to him again as she struggled with his weight but finally managed to get him up and leaning on her
"This man needs medical attention, help or get the hell outta my way" she snarled at the on lookers

"Fear reminds us we're alive."

The cold crawled with bony, icy fingers along his flesh, biting and pinching him on every part of his bodily surface. It had crept into his bones, organs and his blood. He could feel it slowing his metabolism, slowing his muscles and all five of his senses.
Even his brain had begun to lay dormant - he was sure. Slowly, he reverted back to less than a human, his immortal blood rendering useless in this element.
It was a smart move on behalf of the Oxen Corporation; moving him to the fridge area. When he had arrived he could still smell the fresh meat and vegetables that had been in there not hours ago. They'd obviously refurbished it especially for him. He remembered smirking inwardly when they'd closed the door and left him alone, chained and bound to the metal table with nothing but his naked body and a camera to watch him while he did everything that was nothing but breath. They hadn't even given him a blanket to keep his dignity - not that he was ashamed of his undercarriage. It had given him more children than most and never had it disappointed a woman; but they'd called a blanket a "potential fire hazard". They weren't wrong.
He sighed.
A breath upon the air turned to ice immediately, making it visible the moment it was dispersed from his nostrils. He closed his eyes. It was probably his own fault for setting the lab on fire.
The bastards deserved it.

A Stirring within his breast caused the eye lid of his good eye to flutter open, and a distinct pain swallowed his brain as the other tried to do the same. He winced. His head throbbed; and his face. His knees ached, his stomach hurt, he saw blood covering his hands despite the rain falling upon them, his muscles protested and against the movement..
Movement.
All at once his senses switched back on, as if someone had pressed a switch somewhere on his body. Someone was trying to move him.
"No." it was a meek little growl that fell from those chapped lips, but one of defiance. They would not take him back. He would not let them. He needed to reach his family. They needed him.
He was filled with a power then, how ever small, the resurgence of energy allowed him to lift himself from the floor - with the help of those strange hands. He sought them and gripped at the alien wrists tightly, "No!" he roared, shoving them away with what little strength he had.
The woman's voice brought no words to his recognition, yet, the sound of it rang true. There was something familiar in the way it touched his breast. Confusing quickly settled and he turned swiftly to face his assailant, brows fixed with ferocity as a golden ring enflamed that emerald eye.
It took a moment for his mind to recognise the face; and in a single moment, all was forgotten.
"Alleria?" The name was breathed with disbelief. Of all the people to find him this day, of all the strangers that stood around them in all the space of the city it was family who'd stumbled upon him.
The gods favoured him this day and he thanked them.
Relief showered upon him just as the rain did. Soaking his entire form from head to toe, and is it did, his knees buckled. Benjamin realised then that the sudden surge of power that he had felt was from her. The strength that she had given him had been exerted into anger and defiance of the hands that he was sure were not that of a kindred heart.
There might have been a feeling of foolishness had there been time; instead, he reached out, desperate to take hold of her before he fell once more.
He would not succumb to this, not again. Not when the reason he had fought so ferociously to live stood but a breath away. He looked upon her with extensive resolution and admiration, gripped her hands tightly and gave but a single nod.

Feeling his hands grip her wrist she did not fight him as he pushed her away. She found herself smiling slightly at his tone. They hadn't broken him he was still fighting. That was her alpha. She allowed him time to find himself to recognize her the ember colored eyes not scaring her. It was a relief that what little she did was helping. Seeing him faulted She immediately went to him simultaneously his hands saught hers as clarity registered in his mind.

A small smile touched her lips "yes old friend. I am here." she squeezed his hand ever so lightly. The crowd having parted as She all but snarled at them. But they were beginning to draw in more attention and she could hear sirens in the back ground. "We must move now..soon you can rest...but not right now...." she told him firmly and wither her hand in his and her help she moved as quickly as he would allow back to her hotel room

She knew they couldn't stay there either but it would allow sometime to heal him and herself. With the ran pouring down it seeped through her bandages and mixed with paste covering the small hole in her chest. Th he sweet aroma assaulting her nose as the rain washed it away but she couldn't think about that now they would soon be back at the hotel
The fever wouldn't set in that quickly and that foreign presence...she hoped would not come to the serface...not now when She had found her alpha her friend.

With blaze hurt she paused briefly allowing him to rest and to give him more of her own energy so they could could get to their destination. She took him through back alley ways and deplorable back streets until they finally reached the slum hotel she'd been staying in.

A two story crack motel with pumps and their girls around every corner. It wasn't what she was occustumed too but these low life's didn't want any trouble and would dare call the authorities.

Sheielding blaze from the onlookers ae inserted her key to enter the room. A cat call rang out as a male whistled at her. "Yo brandy you've been turning me down all this time and you bring home this? Come on babe I'm more alive then this dude."

Grittingher teeth she pushed the door and blaze inside turning her attention to the pimp. She took out the clock she bought on the black market "if you know what a good for I'd leave me alone" she told him aiming at his junk. "Ok sweet cheeks." wit a growl she went inside locking the door and putting the glock back in it's holster. We can't stay long
.maybe just for the night..." she went to him pushing his hair from his face. Guilt for not being able to find him or eve get close to the corporation darkened her features. "Lets get you cleaned up and warm

"Fear reminds us we're alive."

The soft skin of Allerias hand graced the course, dirty weathered flesh of his. Her warmth fell into him and it was strange. He was not use to being the cold one. It had been such a long time since he had felt the warmth of another, it was so foreign to him. He'd not felt it since Elena, back in the Okami days.
Suddenly, he was aghast with the memories as they flooded him. That had seemed an age ago. He remember all the faces of loved ones gone. Rodney, Hiroshi, Jake... Nyoka. His lip curled with some dormant anger that seemed to surface. That was a name that had since passed his mind. He growled softly.
A sweet aroma interrupted his nostalgia and suddenly he was present once more. The rain pounded them as Alleria led him through the streets. He hobbled to keep up, but managed well enough. His feet ached in protest but ignoring it he pressed on.
There was a moment of pause and Benjamin took it on the shoulder. He knelt over briefly, catching his breath. His eye scanned over his legs. He was thin, waning in muscle mass. They were whittled in various cuts, bruises and gashes. Stains of brown and black covered his legs, his feet becoming unrecognisable. He immediately assumed it was from the sewers.
Suddenly he felt sick; but he had no time to think about it before Alleria pressed on. For her he continued, savouring the strength she gave him. This time he felt it, he drew from it and used it to strengthen their connection. As she ran, he kept up easily this time, despite the angst his muscles and bones gave him.
Blaze wasn't even sure how long they'd been running for, in couldn't have been more than a few minutes before they were greeted by a rather rigging looking man surrounded by less than flattering females.
He seemed to know Alleria; but... Brandy?
It wasn't until they were inside the building did he realise she had used it as an alias. He couldn't help but smile. She was always so clever, he would never have thought of it... perhaps now was the time.
Her hand upon his face caused a sigh without thought to pass over his lips. His good eye closed and he placed his hand upon hers, savouring the moment for as long as time would allow.
He said nothing for a time, only nodded to her knowing full well that she knew Bette than he of the outside world at this moment. His mind pondered, wandering over relentless thoughts. How long had he been gone? Where was the pack? Was everyone okay? All of which he wanted to ask, but the thought of safety and the silence of this empty room rendered his voice useless it seemed. His lips were dry, his body ached. He had forgotten that he was nude; and he was filthy.
The thought of his stench stuck with him for a moment and his good eye opened to look upon her. He only wanted to sleep. Perhaps for days; but the thought of a hot shower sounded like he had died and gone to heaven; and he needed to find his family.
Nodding his head once more his fingers curled around her hand and he took it away from his face slowly. "I bet a toilet would smell better than I do right now. " he commented, and although his voice wavered with a croak, Benjamin managed a smirk.
His body shook with exhaustion, visibly and internally. His stomach clenched within but he ignored that. Food could come later; although he wasn't even sure what he needed more of right then. His brow knotted tightly together and his face screwed up painfully. He gripped her hand tightly with both hands and took in a deep breath.
"Tell me everything, Alley. I need to know if thy are safe."

She frowned at how cold he was but him being het withr her she couldn't believe it. She was over whelmed with so many emotions. It wasn't until he took her hand that chided herself he was weak and needed her medical attention. He desperately needed a bath but his skin was dead or near to. From her medical opinion it looked as if he'd been in the snow and ice.

She smiled lightly at him let me heal you and you'll be able to shower

She helped him sit on the bed it was probably more comfortable than The one chair pushed in at the only desk in the room. Reluctantly She left his side to get towels a bowl of water She returned to the door stuck Her head out and yelled at Rodney aka the pump to bring more bedding and to ask gi gi I'd she could being her two bowls of soup. Shutting and locking the door back se set the hot water on the desk, laid a towel across his lap more so for his modesty than hers. Gently She wet a cloth and dabbled at his cracked lips to moisten them, and so water could also wet his parched throat. Gently She began to dry him off while taking in his injuries She was in healer mode now. Dryshe wrapped him up as best she could But she needed contact with his skin. Her fingers gently skimmed fingertips warm as began to heal the worst of it.

Kneeling between him, She kept her anger in check. It was absolutely appalling. At the mess they made of him. She lost track of the time as she manipulated her and his own healing agents I. His body to heal him. The dead skins cracking away to be replaced with newly pink flesh

She was to wrapped up on trying to get it all that it took her a moment to realize he spoke. Taking her eyes off her work off the mesmerizing flow of her energy patterns..she frowned at him not wanting to say. She lowered her eyes to get back to helping him but was saved when a knock sounded.

I'll be right back

She stood her hand reaching out to steady herself. Opening the door she took the blankets from him holding them dropping them on the floor inside her room next she took the soup thanked him and closed the door with her foot. Balancing the second bowl she locked the door and returned to him setting then next to the water on the desk.

She didn't give notice to how pale She had become her the goose bumps that covered her own flesh.

I hope you can stomach this...it's mainly broth with a little bit of meat in it, She told him not sure if he'd be able to stomach much

If he was able she would then hand him his bowl hers forgotten. As he ate she continued to heal him her focus has been healing his feet and legs and other vital areas

She smiled as he color was starting to look normal

A trickle of shadows pulled themselves together, some creeping out from under the bed, some from the shadow cast by the chair itself, around which all the darkness seemed to gather and swirl. This coagulation took several seconds, almost as though the darkness was feeling out the room, seemingly not sure what it wanted to do. After a few minutes, the black shadows seemed to contract, shrinking down to resemble a figure sitting in the chair, a large figure. Just as details were beginning to coalesce on the figures, the shadows dissipated, leaving an empty chair sitting where before, there had been an empty chair.

"Well, now wasnt that rather disappointing?" His voice said, from the opposite side of the room, where he was seated upon a large black chair that actually fit his size. On the ground next to him sat a large cask with two mugs sitting on top of it, the third one already filled and in his hand as he took a drink from it. "Great to see you man, and about time you finally found your way to this side of the world." Forming a small table from darkness, he filled the other two mugs and sat them out, ready for if the other two desired a drink.

"Fear reminds us we're alive."

Those profound emerald eyes watched as the woman darted fleetingly across the room, picking things up, taking things there. Upon returning to him the first time she draped a small sheet over his nude lower half, covering his manhood.
He'd forgotten he was naked; it worried him not. Their pack were close and many of them had seen each other in the nud, and all had seen him naked. They were family.
After disappearing into the bathroom and returning with a bowl of steaming water which she placed on the side table, Benjamin let his eyes wander over the steam that lifted from the bowl. His breathing was deep and unintentionally laboured, but for the moment he was content.
As Alleria spoke with him he nodded gently but watched the steam rise. He could feel the heat of the water within the bowl pulling at him. He knew that Alleria could only heal him so much, he needed flames and an open fire to douse himself within.
She begun.
The cloth dabbed softly at his lips and it stung when seeping into the cracks that had formed. His brows came together gingerly and his gaze returned to that of Alleria.
The concentration upon her face was admirationable. He wanted to reach out and place his palm upon her cheek and just thank her in any way he could for finding him, pulling him from that hell hole and now, looking after him. Instead he smiled as she dabbed the corner of his lips.
As time passed, he watched her work, sometimes closing his eyes to simply feel the warmth of her hands as they move to various wounds on his body, she was focusing mainly on the worse of them he knew.

Behind shut eyes thoughts of his family were brought to mind. He couldn't help but wonder where they were, and if they were all okay. It burned him to the core to think that something might happen to them in his absence.
The clank of the latch handle on the refrigerator door unhooked and the door was pulled open. The sound of footsteps resonated amongst the sudden sounds of the outside. Though there truly wasn't much to behold there either. Just the usual chatter of the Oxen Employees.
"Good afternoon Benjamin." The voice was dainty, subtle in deliverance and not at all dominating like that of the sergeants and doctored he regularly dealt with.
Benjamin opened his eyes. "How many times do I have to tell you, Hannah, call me Blaze."
She chuckled in response.
Hannah was an intern, she'd only started a few days before he'd been brought in. She was fresh and Benjamin had worked his way in with her soft side. She had a thing for burly men it seemed and he had lovingly been placed under her care.
It had been a few weeks before she was granted permission to attend to him alone but now that she was, they had begun to chat and Benjamin begun to plant seeds in that little brain of hers.
She moved to the IV at his side and checked the dosage, writing down the numbers.
Benjamin cleared his threat. "what is the colour of the sky today?"
She paused to look at him, resting both her hands upon the top edge of her clipboard and bit her lip. Her brow furrowed gingerly, creasing her forehead. "Its a miserable day out there. The sky is covered in thick black cloud." She lied, breath made visible by the chill. He had already noted the gentle glow upon her skin from a hot sun.
A meek smile and he averted his eyes. "Mmm. Just so." sighing softly he closed his emerald hues and listened to the sound of her heels clicking against the cold cement floor. "I'll be right back." She paused at the door and then slowly he heard it slide shut with a click.

Brows furrowed and Benjamin opened his eyes to see Alleria as she leant against the wall for balance. Fingers curled into fists as hard as his muscle would allow, testing his strength. He rolled his neck and watched her move around the room. Those emerald eyes narrowed as she made her way back. Had it been so long since the sun had kissed her skin that her skin was becoming less than opaque. She had never been so.
He took the bowl within his grasp with both hands and smelt it. Instantly his stomach began to knot with the prospect of being filled. Saliva spread across his tongue; but for the moment he ignored it and set the bowl aside beside hers and the bowl of water she had used to cleanse him.
When her hands returned to his skin he took them, one in each of his own and shook his head. "Alley, you have done much and more for me and I love you. You have given me enough strength and clarity to heal on my own accord now. Please, rest yourself."
He squeezed her hand and sat back upright having arched his back slightly to come to eye level with her. Smiling, he took her bowl and held it out for her. "Eat with me, please." in his hand, the bowl seemed to be clouded in more shadow than the light would presume but he dismissed it, assuming it was his imagination.
His stomach growled then, in protest. He was beginning to feel sick once more, needing food in his belly.
The sudden sound of movement at his back forced his boy to jolt, the broth spilling hot over his hands but he did not have time to think on it as he spun around, standing and crouching all once. In defence, his fingers had curled grotesquely as if adorned with claws and his lips had been pulled back to reveal the human teeth within his head.
For a long moment Benjamin did not recognise the figure that sat in that rather large chair. A deep, resonating growl began to emit from his throat. Unable to form the proper vocal chords, it was a pathetic attempt.

~KARA~

Kara pulled hood down further over her forehead, shadowing crimson eyes that stood out like a sore thumb. Her senses were on full alert as she passed silently and efficiently through the streets. It had been 104 days since she had been chased from Nayati lands by Oxen Corp. It was only so long before she couldn't fight their numbers so she fled. The pack lands were barren, trace scents had gone in every which direction.

Moving around in the day was difficult, she simply looked suspicious and was often looked at with questioning glances. Humans seemed to be on high alert these days, so it was safer to keep to the shadows of nightfall. Today had been a rare case, she was restless. Silently she paced her room, looking out the front window as if she was expecting something to happen right under her nose.

A sigh escaped her lips as she silently cursed her stupid gut feelings. Why did she leave? She grumbled internally at herself as she continued to make her way along the sidewalk. Making sure to keep distance from passing humans she weaved around, waiting for something to smack her in the face and make her feel less foolish about leaving her hiding place during the day. Then, it did.

Blaze... The scent snapped her recognition, eyes wide she looked around wildly. It had been months since she seen another wolf. Eyes searching and coming up with nothing caused her brow to furrow. Stopping, Kara took in a deep breath and followed the scent to the small crowd that was still gathered around a manhole. Some people were murmuring amongst each other about a man crawling out of a sewer, a woman coming to his rescue and taking him away. Another stated to what seemed like his significant other that he was calling the Oxen Corp.

She lingered on the outskirts of the crowd but the smell of Blaze was pungent on the manhole, along with another. Another inhale recognized the scent as Aleria, another smile formed on pink lips as she realized at least two had made it out. There was nothing left for Kara to see here and she decided to leave before the authorities showed up and started asking questions. Quickly she picked up their scent and followed it as it led away.

Her lead led her to a sketchy part of town, one she was unfortunately familiar with as she had passed through. Keeping her head and eyes low she entered the lobby of the motel she moved briskly past the front desk and into the corridor of the rooms. Down the hall she came to a stop, looking ahead at the door in front of her. With her heart in her throat she gave a quick knock before waiting.

There was so much left to do. His body in need of much repair. Having been with him for a long time She knew he needed fire, but the small room provided no hearth for a fire and the rain made is so not one could be built. The heater, blankets, and the renewed strength and healing she'd given she hoped would be enough until such a time allowed for him to heal properly.

It wasn't until his hands grasped hers did she realize the difference in her own body temperature. Meeting his gaze she smiled warmly at his invitation to join. For a moment it felt like old times. He not sick and the ixen Corp didn't exist.

She stood and took her bowl from him, the warmth seeping into her hands. Clarity dawned that She still wore her wet clothes.

Shed eat then change. She was about to take a seat when a voice alerted her that someone else was in the room. Food forgotten the bowl dropping to the floor to snatch the gun attached to her hip.

She had never liked guns never saw much use in them. Try were a human weapon used against their kind, but as the days became darker, their enemies growing in number and strength, it had come in handy when she was outnumbered and energy running low. Plus the bullet could travel farther and reach them before she could.

The presence moved from behind them to across te room the barrel of the gun aimed at the person forming and pulls the trigger just as blade forms out of the shadows. Bad aim, the 9mm bullet embeds into the wall

Son of a bitch! Blade! Weary, her arm starting to shake She lowers the gun at almost hitting him. Angry and scared she puts The gun up her eyes go from the bullet to him to his drinks. A new wave of anger renews her strength and wanes off the cold that it seeping into her fro the wet clothes and over exertion from healing blaze and fighting her own fever. She stalks over to blade and without warning her palm slaps across his face and without another word she walks off to the bathroom closing the door with an audible click. Soon the sound of running water can be heard.

......

Hugging her knees to her chest as the tears come. Alone she let's them fall in silence, her body shaken with what just happened.

Blade sat there, looking from, first Blaze, then the bullet embedded in the wall, then the bathroom where Aleria had just locked herself into, and back for a few minutes, feeling the sting of the slap in his cheek. "Well, that was, certainly an interesting series of events," He began, then gave a laugh, one not intended to dismiss everything that had just happened, but rather to help diffuse the tension in the room.

His attention turning to Blaze, "You, my brother, look terrible." This was not said as an insult of any sort, but a statement of fact, the male looked horrid. "You need fire," he looked around, "Probably out of here, not that its a bad place, just, I can think of several places more comfortable than here. And the castle does have several large hearths, easily enough space for you to flop down into the fire. Better food as well." He sniffed at the bowl of rather thin soup. Standing, he looked at the other male, who he was normally larger than, but, now, with the degradation from, whatever he had been through, looked absolutely emaciated.

Moving past Blaze, he first tried the handle, but found it locked. True, he could have easily circumvented the lock, but, decided that was not the best route today. "Aleria," He said, not yelling, he knew she would hear him, "Im sorry I scared you, but we need to move Blaze to somewhere he can get into fire. Its what he needs right now."

"Fear reminds us we're alive."

The gun fired at a quarter to his right, making him turn swiftly. Eyes lain upon Alleria for a fleeting moment before scanning back to Blade.
The shot had been in such close proximity to his human ears that they begun to ring. It was a deafening sound and for a time, his vision seemed to dance.

Even through the thick steel door, lined with polystyrene foam to keep the cold in and the heat out, the gun shots woke him from a cold induced slumber. Emerald eyes fluttered for a moment trying to rid themselves of the gunk that had gathered in the corner of each eye.
The shots continued.
It was unusual, he thought, that guns would be fired inside the institute. Months had gone by and not a single shot had been fitted, and now all at once people were emptying their magazines on to the stone floor.
His fists flexed, and he could feel the ache in his bones from the absence of movement for months on end. Shuffling slightly due to uncomfortability Benjamin moved to the left , and frowned deep. Had his feet seen loosed while he slept?
A quick look saw that they had not; they had been released entirely. A wave of excitement and disbelief coursed through him with lightning speed and he didn't even stop to wonder how.
He sat up and swing his legs off of the table; but it had been so long since he had used them properly he fell to the floor. A groan left his lips, but he ignored the pain and used the table as leverage to get to his feet. The wheels skidded across the floor under his weight, making him shuffle with it until it clammered loudly against the wall and stopped. He stood unsteadily.
The adrenaline that ran through his body made it look as though he saw through half closed eyes, tunnelling his vision. He wavered a moment before walking forward and forgetting his balance. Catching the handle of the fridge door, he quickly regained before trying the handle, tugging it with all his might. On the second try it came free swinging open so fiercely that he fell to warmth of the carpeted floor below.

"... Fire." attention turned to the male that was now leaning over the soup Alleria had placed on the side table. "Better food as well."
There was a knock at the door that went unnoticed. Dazed, Benjamin watched Blade as the giant of a man went to the bathroom door and called for Alleria. Where had she gone?
Another knock at the door.
Why wasn't anyone getting that? Annoyance fluttered through his breast and in a few angry steps he made it to the door and flung it open with aggression, unseemingly biased at the fact that he was still nude.
Confused and dazed from his moment of rememberance, a golden hue now encircled his emerald eyes and he stood in the doorway rigidly awaiting the person on the other side to explain themselves for the interruption seemingly too consciously unconscious to notice who exactly he was staring at.

~KARA~

One Knock...
Kara eyed the door as she waited for someone to open it. She could clearly make out the scents of Alleria and Blaze and could hear them within the room. A few passerby's looked at her, all receiving the same "Fuck off..." which quickly deterred them from further interaction. Time seemed to pass impossibly slow, brow furrowing as no one came to the door still.

A single gunshot caused her to jump back, eyes wide as she tried for the handle, Locked. In a panic, she moved to kick in the door but a loud curse of Blade followed by his scent gave way to a slight sense of ease. Silently she sighed, "If he got shot he probably deserved it..." she thought half jokingly with a fond smile on her face. Inside she heard a door slam and then Blades talking.

A growl escaped her mouth in frustration by this point. Why had no one answered the door? Shouldn't they have sensed her by now? "One more knock and im going through the door..." she grumbled under her breath as she raised her knuckled to knock against the door once more.

Almost as soon as her hand had fallen back to her side the door swung open. Eyes luminescent, she opened her mouth to bitch at whomever she came across first for making her stand in a dingy hallway with creeps but her words came up short. It took a second for her brain to catch up to reality. Relief, shock, worry were all racing through her as she took in one of the only people who's ever mattered to her. He looked weak, frail and beaten. He also looked extremely naked...The blush rose to her cheeks faster then the could try to stop it as her gaze took him in.

A door opening down the hall snapped her attention back, looking down the hall she quickly stepped forward. Placing her hands on either of his arms, she would  gently ease the dazed and Annoyed? looking Blaze back into the room. Using her foot she closed the door behind her, refusing to look away. It took a moment for Kara to find the right words to say, her mind drawing a blank after all this time. "Blaze...I'm so glad you're alive.." she said, reaching forward to wrap her arms around his neck in a soft embrace.

Struggling, she finally manages to open her eyes. It takes her a moment to realize she's still on the shower. Judging by the temperature of the water She hasn't been in long. With a small sigh she stands to her feet. Her body bo longer frigid from being wet from the rain out doors. She leaves her wet clothes in the shower, turning it off she steps out. Automatically she reaches for the bandage that is barely sticking to her chest, peeling the last of the glue from her skin, she tosses it in the trash. The wound itself is no longer bleeding, the patch is filled with herbs to help it close to keep infection out. She knows it should have healed by now but....well she's been on her own know one to help keep watch as she'd sleep. So she hasn't, not much. Findi g the others and helping any she's come across has come first.

Grabbing a towel She wraps one about her long hair to keep it from dripping on the floor and the next around her torso.

She's no longer mad or upset, she's Just. Opening the door she looks up at blade and gives him a small smile. ."I'm sorry" she. Says genuinely before stepping past him to go the chest of drawers. Seeing the commotion at the door she pauses for a moment...then she smiled a bit more as She recognized Kara. Donning a shirt She quickly ushers them and closes the door, while also keeping the towel about her. Kara, I'm so glad to see you. I'm sorry about not answering earlier.

Remembering what blade said She nodded and looked to blaze and Kara but spoke to blade. " you could take him..somewhere to recover?

"Yeah, I could. In fact, I could take all of us, without having to, in a sense, leave this room. Which, I could help pay for if need be." He punctuated the last part of his answer by setting a small pouch on the table. It contained a few gold and silver coins, which, though not necessarily the currency of the land, he still carried them around, and, for the most part, had not had too many issues using them. He was well aware that most of the people who received them as payment had them melted down into small gold bars before they were sold further, for a profit.

He turned to look at who Blaze had let into the room, rather, who had let herself into the room after the other male had opened the door. "Kara," He smiled at her, "Good to see you again." There was not an ounce of sarcasm in his voice, being genuinely glad to see the woman again. Now, in the past, he would have rushed to hug any former pack mates after such a long absence, but, he had, recently, for him at least, finally acquired self restraint in that aspect. The return of an actual challenge to survival in a strange land had brought about the change in him as he worked to protect the people he cared for.

"Fear reminds us we're alive."
All at once the mind forgot all else. For the first time in months there was not a single word uttered, not a memory that flashed and not a thought processed. All the senses he had once seemed to have had suddenly vanished, only to leave the eyes wide open. It took a long moment before that silly mind recovered the sight of the woman he'd loved above all else; and amidst the pain, the anguish, the anger and torment, something stirred within his breast.
Time had seemed to slow so immensely that within space of a few heartbeats, he had been moved from betwixt the doorway, to within the room without notice; he could feel nothing else but the warmth of her soft palms upon his cold, bruised skin and saw nothing but the crimson that burnt brightly in those beautiful orbs of her face.
He'd not moved to protest the decision by the two women seemingly unintentionally working in unison to usher him within the room once more. He obeyed absent of thought and, it would seem, absent of himself.
The door closed - he didn't hear it and as tender arms wrapped around his thick neck to pull him close he remained unmoved.
Did the bullet ricochet and hit him in the head? Because surely he was dead. There was no plausible reasoning nor explanation as to why Kara would be here, on front of him.
His arms moved with an unusually sedated pace, the rest of his body remained a statue. Weathered palms pressed gingerly against the place between her shoulder blades and the small of her back, the fabric of her clothing was soft and he could feel her small fran beneath. It felt so real.
Blaze...
Anything said after that was not caught by the ear as his breath caught in its stead - or would have had he been breathing. He took a long breath in. The sweet stench filled his nose and transferred immediately to the taste bud of his throats and tongue, ignited by the animal instinct within.
In a single breadth of a moment, somewhere hidden in that sweet, sweet scent came the clear perception that she was real; and she was here.
Fingers curled into tight fists, to hold the fabric of her clothing tightly within grasp to simultaneously pull her to his breast as tight as his weakened state would allow, as if fear presented the clear thought that she might leave if he was to let go.
Eyes closed with an intense ferocity and he breathed in her scent once more, affirming his realisations further, burying his face deep within the nook of her neck, allowing to engulf himself in those thick locks of red hair.

~KARA~

Her embrace was gentle as she feared causing him pain, a smile forming on her lips as she left out a relieved sigh. Closing her eyes she took shallow breaths as if to hide the fact that she was relishing in the familiarity of his rich umber scent. "I've missed you... She thought but never spoke.

Looking over Blaze's shoulder she gave a soft smile to both Alleria and Blade, relief flooding her that they had made it to safety. "Its so good to see you two alive and well." she breathed a sigh of relief before turning her attention back to Blaze. He was rigid against her body, slowly her smile faded and she leaned back to look at him. It was unlike the male she once knew so well to act tense but times seemed to take a toll on him and she was unsure if she had invaded his space. As if to answer her insecurities, immediately, she felt the soft touch of his hands move to her back.

It was like her words were unheard because Blaze never spoke, instead her body was drawn to his in a hard embrace. Arms tightened around his neck as she moved her hand to rest upon the back of his head as his face buried in her neck. Eyes closed in utter contentment of the moment, something shes missed for a very long time. She wished that she could freeze time and stay in the same content bliss that she had now, but she knew she wished for the impossible.

Her own contentment was soon overshadowed by the overwhelming feeling of doubt then fear as Blaze's emotions rolled off her like waves. She worried about what he had went through to cause the Alpha she knew so well to harbor fear. Pressing her cheek against the side of his head, she softly played with the hair upon his head while sending feelings of calm to Blaze. Kara remained calm when all she wanted to so was cry with relief and throw herself at her former mate but he needed his family to be strong for him for once instead of vice versa. "It's going to be OK..." she said in a soothing voice.  Her eyes however illuminated to a dangerous shade while his face was buried in her neck. "I wont let anything else hurt you... She thought with ferocity as she remembered the sight of his weakened and beaten body standing in the doorway and felt him in her embrace.

She briefly glanced down at the sack full of money, they her eyes looked to blaze and Kara. A warm feeling settled over her as she watched the two. Thier love for one another was so much aleria could swear she could see it. She was glad Kara was here too, another family member not in the clutches of the corporation.

Sr worried at her lip as she gave blaze and Kara what little privacy she could while she searched through her small selection of clothes to find under wear and pants.

"If you and Kara found us then surely the soldiers can as well..we are not safe here." ...or anywhere...., she thought, keeping it to herseld. Blaze still needed to heal through fire and what torment he went through she knew Kara would be the right person to get through him.

"I think we should find another place to stay.." she looked to blaze, her alpha. She felt they should leave and blade should take them so that blaze cam heal properly, but mostly she didn't want him to get recaptured. Once She rescues her family She wants to leave this horrible place.

As she got dressed she frowned but kept pulling the jeans up and fastening. She felt someone in her mind, reaching out to her. It couldn't possibly be nammia...

Finished dressing she looked to the three others,."what have we decided?

"Sounds like we are heading to the castle." Blade said, as he made his way over to the wall opposite the door. Producing a dagger, he began to force a design into the wall. "Give me just a few minutes here to set up the portal, it will be easier on Blaze in his weakened condition." Another box was produced from nowhere, this one being opened to reveal a some small shadow crystals to act as the temporary anchors while the portal was opened. "When we get there, we will have plenty of, proper, food." The large male said as he worked, looking pointedly at the rather sad soup sitting, cooling, and congealing, on the table.

"But Alleria does have a valid point, if Kara and I were able to find our way here, then it is very likely that those Oxen bastards can find us." Finishing his work, he crossed his hands, and after a quick series of gestures, shadows surged from their hiding spaces around the room towards the diagram. In a few short moments, a swirling void formed, in the center of which coalesced an image of a large room, a fire burning merrily at the far end from their view point. "Shall we?" He said, gesturing towards the portal.

"Don't trust everything you see; even salt looks like sugar."

The gentle patterns that were drawn into his scalp from finger tips so soft, found his mind still for the first time in what seemed an age. The man breathed deeply of a sigh that gave wind to his contentment at that very moment; unaware in the conscious mind that Kara was the cause of it. He hadn't forgotten her empathic powers, but rather chose to indulge in them absent of immediate thought. It seemed that his inner being knew that it was what he needed in order to come to sense.
At the sound of her Allerias voice, Benjamins emerald eyes opened slowly and he leant back, but not enough to take himself away from the embrace.  Only enough to stare with depth and devotion into those glowing scarlet hues.
His tone of voice did not match how ever, for it was only for her to see. "Alley is right." He exclaimed with a sudden purpose that had not been there moments prior. Perhaps it was the energy that Alleria had spared him or the new found company in a friend and a love; maybe it was  the duty he felt deep within his breast to protect his pack - but what ever it was, he managed a small smile and leant forward to plant a tender kiss upon Kara's brow before turning to face the other two, an arm draped securely around Karas shoulder to keep her close.
"We must move." Benjamin followed Allerias gaze toward Blade, but the male needed no hinting. He had already taken the dagger betwixt fingers in the true Blade Blackthorne fashion of picking it seeemingly from no where and was scratching something into the wall.
Although Blaze had not yet seen this new ritual blade had began to perform, he left Kara's side and took the towel Alleria had given him in hand once more before wrapping it around his waist for some decency. As he bent, he stifled a groan, forgetting in the moment of bliss the ordeal that he had been through. His resolve was returning to him, that was clear for all to see, but it would take some proper time for his body to heal. Although, Alleria had given him the push he had needed to make sense of the world.
The shadows amongst the room began to distort and peel away from the objects the were bound to. Blaze had always found this fascinating, although at this moment in time, it seemed that the sleepless days of trudging through the sewer were growing on his mind. All at once he had felt tired, though not without himself as he had been only minutes ago. He nodded in agreeance to Blade, passing a glance to Alleria as the portal opened and waited for her to pass through first making a slight gesture with his hand as if to gently usher her within it. Then Kara. Only once the two females and Blade were through, if possible, would Benjamin enter Castle Blackthorne. Now that he had half of his mind return to him, he would make sure those he cared for were in clear safety before moving forward himself.

Kara Rae

Alleria's words caused a cold chill to creep from her toes to her head, her moment of contentment and relief of finding family ending immediately. Instinctively she tuned in her scenes to the area, listening to anything that would seem out of place. But in this city, almost everyone was a threat. Blaze's beaten body against hers confirmed her decision before she could even give a second to its thought. They had to leave, heal, and come up with a plan. She knew she would return, she had to, as the last time she seen anyone from the Nayati was before the Oxen corp moved into the pack lands.

Crimson eyes snapped to stare back into the deep emerald of Blaze's as he leaned away, hands falling to softly place on his shoulders. "She is, its not safe to stay here." she agreed. It was as if she could hear the strength return to his voice before she felt his lips on her brow. Eyes closed for only a second as a smile played at the corners of her lips. She tucked herself into Blaze's side and gently placed her hand on his lower back "Lets do this." she said, looking to both Alleria and Blade.

Kara watched Blade with some interest as he made the steps to open his portal. In the years they've known each other she had never paid mind to the difference on how they wield the same element. The absence of Blaze at her side caused her to look away from Blade, shaking her head ever so slightly with a grin on her face. "We're going to have to find you something else to wear eventually." she said, noting the towel he was now donning.

The pull of the shadows in the room caused Nott to stir, although she was quickly silenced as she took steps toward Blade while he finished. Standing at its side, she waited as she fully intended to be the last to pass through. She looked at Alleria as Blaze gestured her first and gave her a reassuring smile. Things would be OK now, they were no longer all alone. Next she looked at Blaze, brow raising as she assessed him. She shook her head and held out her hand to Blaze. "Come on." she coaxed softly, knowing his stubbornness but refusing to let him be the last in the room in his weakened state in the instance that someone busted through that door.

Aleria watched as the portal was now open ready to take them to his home. She didn't like that blaze wanted her to go first. He was the injured one and in her care. Somehow it didn't seem right to go first but it wasn't surprising to her. Blaze had always put others first even in his condition he wanted everyone safe like an alpha would want for his pack, but knowing the others and herself they were just as stubborn and She could see this turning into a standoff of who went first And who was last to enter. She knew blade had to be last, it was his portal his magic that kept it open and it would only close when he stepped through. There was nothing in the room she needed to take She had clothes on her back and what weapons she had she strapped those to her in there respective places. Her eyes rested on the map and pins, all the data she'd collected. She knew it by heart.placing her hands on either side she lifted it from the wall and looked down at it before calling her energy to her hands, training it to dust. The multi different colored pins falling to the floor. Dusting her hands she felt better. All that was left was the police scanner which she left on th table.

Not giving the others time to think she gave blade a reassuring look as the feeling of urgency blossomed inside her chest. Moving at a rather fast pace but slower than a run, she grabbed Karas And blazes hand and entered the portal.....

((Hoping this first bit is ok))

Blade watched the trio of them enter the portal. Blaze had, as expected, tried to say something about the larger male going first.

"No," Blade had explained calmly, yet firmly, "for one, you are in no condition to be the 'rearguard' as you might call it. And two, the gems," He said, gesturing towards the stones set in the wall. "Are anchored to my power, once I go through, they will crack and disintegrate. You need to go through first." Then, after taking a quick look about the room to ensure it was clear of their items, he made his way into the portal. But, just before he cleared the threshold, a loud crash occurred behind him as the door was nearly blown from its hinges by breaching charges. Whirling as he kept moving into the portal, he caught sight of a man just in time to watch the bullet he fired slam into his shoulder. The force of the round, and it must have been a big slug with a lot of powder, spun Blade the rest of the way around as he cleared the portal. It slammed shut behind him, as a string of curses was audible from the door before being cut off.

A few choice obscenities flew from Blades mouth at being shot. "Shadrack!" He bellowed, which was answered quickly by a tall thin man entering the room, shorter than Blade, only about 6 foot. "Yes mi'lord?" He asked with what sounded a well learned voice.
"A fire in the large hearth, a few barrels of ale, one of water, and food."
"Yes mi'lord," Shadrack said and turned to depart.
"Alright, please, have a seat." Blade gestured towards the couches and chairs that made the room look cozy and comfortable. Granted, they had mostly been custom built for his large size, the rest of the group should find them plenty comfortable. He then produced a dagger, and began poking around the wound, swearing the entire time. "Come here you little bastard."

"Destruction is a form of creation."

It had all happened too fast for his brain to comprehend. He was holding Karas hand but Alleria had taken his other and dragged both he and Kara through the portal. He hadn't had time to protest and to be quite honest he might have chuckled at her knowing them so well had the door inside the room swung open and a shot fired.
It was upon instinct that he crouched down and dragged the two females behind him by use of their hands. He had to use his entire strength to do so and if they had chosen to protest then they would have easily over powered him; but Blade came hurtling through the portal and Benjamin had to dive aside to get out of his way. He landed hard upon the carpet, a loud crunch coming from his chest as he broke a rib. He winced, but as the portal closes and the danger disappeared he got to his feet without protest. Instead holding his side absent of sound and clenched teeth.
If anyone had tried to help him he would have assured them he was fine with raspy breaths having had the wind knocked from him and made to take a seat in a large chair as Blade summoned Shadrack. It'd seemed like an age since he'd seen the man and held up a hand in short greeting to the servant.
Benjamin still wasn't able to wrap his mind around the concept of servants and people waiting on you hand and foot.
He lay back into the corner and the arm of the chair and closed his eyes briefly forgetting about Blade and the bullet, the room and the women. The weight of the last few months was weighing on him heavily and he only needed to rest. He knew that the Oxen Corporation could never infiltrate the Blackthorne Caslte, so for the moment they were all safe. He needed to concentrate on healing himself so he could help others who needed it.

"speech."
Thoughts.

Kara Rae

Kara prepared to stand her ground with Blaze, her resolve set that he would not be the last to pass through in his state. A miracle in the form of Alleria seemed to solve the standoff with one quich sweep as Kara was pulled into the portal. A loud crash caused her to turn her head back to the entrance, just in time to see the solders crash through the wood door, splinters flying about as loud yells and commands filled the area.

Kara stumbled slightly as she was moved back behind Blaze though only for a second before Blade's large form came barreling through. She winced as she heard the crack of Blaze's rib, though he brushed it off when she asked if he was alright. She knew he would heal faster once the fire was lit and proper time and care was given. The scent of fresh blood hung heavily on Blade as she looked from one male to another, then over to Alleria who also had the lingering smell of an open wound. "Are you ok?" she asked Blade but her words were cut short by his loud summon, causing her to flinch in startle. Footsteps entered the room as crimson eyes looked over the man she had never met. She watched he exchange between Blade and the male named Shadrack, head tilting to the side. It was like a two person pack and Blade was solely in command as the other man did what he commanded without hesitation.

She watched as Blaze moved to become comfortable in a chair and Blade dug at the bullet hole. She felt out of place, standing in the same spot looking around as she had never been here before. After a moment she quietly made her way to the couch near the hearth, sitting down on the edge she began to remove the boots from her feet. It was a weight off her shoulders to know that they could relax for a while, get their bearings and for the others to heal. Kara was just happy to shed the layers of clothes that restricted her, peeling off a hoodie and then tshirt, leaving a tank top and jeans. A sigh of contentment escaped her mouth as she allowed her body to fall back into the plush couch, her small form sprawling out as she stretched like a happy housecat bathing in the sun.
