Good and Evil

Clara

Clara walked through saints market with her hood up and her head down,  she was gaunt and thin and looked a shell of the woman she once was. The news of Soul had been the thing to push her over the edge. Since Karne had told her she had spent weeks in the flat, she had barely even kept herself alive, just existing and waiting for Xaphan to come and take her, but of course, he was probably enjoying her suffering and would let her rot. It made sense really, and to her, she deserved to be this way, she didn't deserve to have a shred of happiness. Any thought of seeing the twins, any thought of taking Karne up on the offer to join them in the manor had not entered her mind, she thought of nothing but Soul and why he would have done what he did, but she could not answer it. She was beyond crushed.  And if she continued on, she would just fade into nothing.

Clara had found her way to saint's city, through the markets and to a black market dealer she used to know. The only thing she could think about doing, to give herself something else to focus on, was to go back to being a hunter.  Since they had come here, her and Luca, their lives had been one shit heap after the other, and that was down to the immortals.. Clara could never turn her hatred to the immortals she already knew, she would always have an open mind to any new ones she met, but she had to do something, she had to kill, killing was the only way she was going to be able to live, she had nothing else.

She met with the trader and restocked her hunter gear, books and trinkets. It felt so natural to her, picking out the things she needed, the best weapons against all manner of immortals, including her most hated, demons. As she stocked up she thought about the balance, where there is good, there needs to be evil, but in her lifetime, she had never met or heard of angels or the like, she had only come across the evil in the world. Perhaps God had abandoned them all, and the way she felt right now about Soul, if there was a God she hated him more than anything else.  Clara took her bags, paid the trader and went to the nearest café. She would hack into the local police records and start digging for possible cases, anything, any little hint of an immortal, she would get on the hunt before she drowned in herself.

The meeting with Ajax and Skymere had been an interesting one and Shoe had agreed to play ball on the merger seeing it as probably the only way forward after Matashina coven had taken such a hit.
For now he had nothing to do though. Skymere was sorted for the next few weeks, Shoe's powers holding sway over his powers in order to make him safe to intergrate in with others in the world. So currently he did not need him and nor did Ajax.
He stated he would stay contactable and he had gone off his own way deciding that now he had been called out of Lacrimosa and into the Black woods he would take some time to explore Arcane and the surrounding cities, having not spent much time in any of them before.

He had spent a few days in Arcane but much of that had involved hidng out from Ox Corp soldiers and that hadn't really allowed him to see or do much of anything so he had then moved on to the next city. Saints Stand which had proven a little more relaxed.
There were still soldiers but not as many and the areas seemed very diverse. Going easily from the rich area to a drug addled one.

He had come across a market which had been a little way off the beaten track. He was sure that it most probably was not well known off.
It seemed like some sort of black market. Perusing through the stalls he mumbled a few hellos and purchased a lolly pop from a voodoo looking woman who had claimed it would bring him good fortune.

Twisting the sucker around in his mouth he wondered about deciding that there wasn't all that much to see he was going to leave when he spotted someone he had not expected to see. Pausing he looked upon the woman and remembered her to be Clara. He had taken her out on a party bus to forget her worries. It had been a good night but he had not seen her since dropping her off the morning afterwards.
“Clara” he called loudly with a wave as he walked through a small crowd of people towards her until he came to stand beside her. She looked awful “Hello, Clara. Long time no see, it's funny to bump into you here”

Clara spent some time routing around on the computer, jotting notes in her little black book which she used to use many years ago. She sighed, most immortal stuff was dealt with by Oxen, so the police scanners were a little boring for her tastes, but there were a few to look into some sounding like vampires other like witches, she wasn't going to be picky.

She heard her name and subtly slid her hand beneath the table to get ahold of one of her knives. Glancing up from her computer, she saw an old familiar face beaming at her like big idiot and drawing all of the attention of the café onto them. She rolled her eyes, ''Shoe.'' She said with a small nod of her head. He seemed to have a knack at finding her when she was at her worst. However, no wish could change her now. ''Hmmm.'' She said with no hint of friendliness at all, ''What are you doing here Shoebox?'' She asked, her eyes going back to the computer, if he chose to sit with her she wouldn't stop him, but she also wouldn't let him stop her from what she was doing.

She didn't seem all that bothered to see him. If anything he seemed to be an inconvenience but Shoe being Shoe he didn't really get the hint, all he saw was Clara in a grump the same way she had been the first time he saw her. Sky was the same, always in a strop. He understood why yet he lacked the emotional depth to actually really empathise he had many abilities and it seemed that feeling the way the rest of the planet did was not one of them.

Pulling a chair across he plopped down next to her as she returned her eyes to the screen giving him no thought at all nor did.
Leaning back on the chair he kicked up his legs putting his feet on the desk while he ignored disproving looks from the cafe staff and others within the building. None of them how ever approached him and he did not expect any of them to, they usually didn't.
"I am wandering around like a little lost sheep" he replied rather enjoying his down time. He didn't often take much before he found himself wound up in someone or another's spell or drama. Despite having little in a way of ties holding him down he seldom found himself with time on his hands.

"Why are you sitting in here like a bored office worker?" he replied never understanding why people wasted their times on such things. "You must have someone to beat up or something?"

Shoe sat down and splayed his feet on the table to the dislike of the people around them, she paid no mind to them, nor to him as she delved back into her computer screen. She scrolled through some pages and then found something of interest nearby, escapes from oxen corporation. She jotted it down in her black book, she could take a look, fine a trail and go from there. ''Lost? Yea you must be to be here.'' She replied, she didn't think a djinn like him would need to visit the black market, he could just create everything he needed anyway, he had an easy life. Clara of course knew that wasn't necessarily the case, yet she couldn't really feel sympathetic at the moment.

''Yea, well I'm just trying to find some work.'' She said, her drained and beaten eyes meeting his for a moment. ''They do a good hot chocolate here if you are ordering something.'' She said before motioning to stand and begin to pack away her stuff in a shoulder satchel which used to be Soul's. ''Well, as much as I would just love to stay and chat Shoe, I want to keep myself busy.'' She said standing to face him, ''If you have any work going, and by work I mean my kind of work.'' She said with a raise of an eyebrow, ''Then by all means throw it my way.'' Perhaps he did, she would take anything at the moment, if she didn't keep herself focused on something and her mind elsewhere she would not be able to survive.

For the most part she ignored him barely tolerating him being there as she scrolled through the screen before the two of them, he was intruding and he was getting on her nerves neither of these things bothered him. He either didn't pick up on them or he chose to see past them no one would know.

Sliding his feet down he leaned forward to lean upon his elbows and read the screen as she looked through news articles looking for some sort of job to do. He chewed his lip and sighed, it all seemed very technical and very boring. It was a far stretch from the last time they had seen each other on the party bus and had a night on the town.

"Hot Chocolate hm?" he asked watching her pack her stuff away quickly into her bag. She couldn't wait to get away from him, or from the public eye. He didn't take it personally he didn't much care it was just a quicker end to his distraction then he had expected.

Stretching out she started to move off and away from him.
She at least had the good grace to stop from walking away from him without a word as she told him she had work to do.
"Nope, no work for you" reaching over he grabbed her wrist, pulling her in and close to him for a moment.
"Goodbye Clara. You need to find me just pucker those lips and call my name. Djinnshoe" he let her go and just like that he turned to look back at the now blank computer screen. He had a feeling this would not be the last time he laid eyes upon Clara.
