Kara Rae

They were in need of rest, gone were the days of relaxation while they lazily rolled in soft grass on their backs, bellies soaking in the sun. Their home was taken over and the remaining wolves were doing everything in their power to regain their numbers and survive in a hostile world that wanted them eliminated. Everywhere they turned it seemed like there was another horde of soldiers that was chasing them. Some of them had been captured, abused, chased and worse and all the while slowly finding one another.

Finally it seemed they had settled on a base where they could both relax and carry out searches for lost wolves in need of assistance. It was placed securely in the back of an old store room guarded heavily with men loyal to Blade. Through that back room hid a portal, capable of taking them to another place that was safe from the Oxen Corp and what they stood for.

Kara was exhausted to say the least but adrenaline kept her away as came down with a final plan for the day, Blade seemingly still full of energy had gone off in search for Alleria and Tate while Blaze and herself were guided through the portal to the castle awaiting on the other side. Blade's butler had silently made his way over to them, causing Kara to eye the man wairly. These days it was hard to trust and let her guard down, she never knew when the next attack would come and from where. Kara looked back at the portal to the store room, a feeling of unease as yet again their group was breaking down into fragments. They needed to return to their roots and if not be a pack, then at least function as one unit like one.

Clenching her jaw, Kara looked to Blaze who also seemed like he was worse for wear and needed rest and seeing as how it was them alone she wasnt sure what to do. Looking back to Shadrack she smiled a kind smile before addressing him. "I think Blade had introduced us once before, but I'm Kara. If you want to just point me in the direction of the rooms I'm sure I can find my way." she offered in her sweetest voice possible, hoping that he would simply point and she could be off to try and collect her thoughts.

As Shadrack pointed her in the right direction to the rooms in the castle with simple steps on where to turn if need be she smiled and nodded with a "Thank you." before moving to stand by Blaze. Crimson eyes looked up to his but the words from her mouth fell short, leaving her standing there awkwardly for a second. She debated asking if he wanted her help as he might want to go rest in his own quarters however she worried that he was hiding an injury as was something Blaze was known to do and act as if its nothing. Deciding that she would leave him be, if that was his wish, after she assured herself that he would be fine, Kara finally found the words she was looking for.

"Shadrack said the room's were down that hall.."she said motioning in the direction. "Alleria had healed me back in the room, but you left.." she said, trailing off and remembering the exchange in the heat of the situation upon finding Tate. She had been less than thrilled that the group had been split and she was pushed off as weak. "I should have helped divert the soldiers..." she thought absently. "I guess what I'm asking is, are you ok? Do you need me to check you over?" she asked, placing a hand gently on his bicep as she talked to him.

"Power should only be given to those willing to lower themselves to pick it up."

Those deeply emerald eyes peered through the portal and back to Blade as he spoke. A feeling spat upon him like a rush of cold air, it could only be described by a motley of embarrassment, agitation, relief and exhaustion.
Embarrassment at his misconception of the situation, a result from his mind working not at it’s full capacity due to fatigue; agitation at the mistrust he had suddenly had in being wary of his friends intentions, relief because they could finally rest; and exhaustion – well, he, they had been through a great deal just on this particular day. A sigh fell from lightly parted lips and he nodded and, spurred by his embarrassment, he pushed through the portal on his own accord. He knew it was a selfish thing, and for a fleeting moment felt more embarrassed by the act he had just performed.
He turned to apologise to Blade, but the male had already gone and the portal had closed behind Kara. He could only hope that his friend knew him well enough to know that the temper was from his weary state. It wasn’t until the trio had stepped into the store room and the silence had taken them for a quarter of an hour did his tiredness really weigh down on him; and now, his eye lids felt as though gravity was purposefully pulling them down. His shoulder was in striking pain from the bullet lodged there that he had completely forgotten about in his adrenaline fuelled wake and his body ached all over from the chase earlier this day. He had forgotten how many times he had shifted and shifted back, nor right now did he care to count.
All at once he felt as though he might fall over then and there, it wasn’t until Kara touched his arm that he realised he hadn’t been listening to a single word his former mate had said. He looked at her, startled at first and then, swiping his eyes to the butler, followed Shadracks pointing gesture, surmising that she had invited to help him he shook his head and took her hand in his, palms together he faced her.
He said nothing for a moment contemplating his answer once more. He knew he would not be great company right now and he also knew that Kara needed to heal and rest too; but so too, did he know, that he would not be able to remove the bullet himself. After a short moment, he nodded and closed his eyes for a moment, “Please.”. The word was not said in any tone, that which only spoke of nothing. Opening those green orbs, he turned away and with heavy steps, made his way to the room he had been designated time and time again and fell into a tired train of thought.
He wished he could look for his family, only praying he would not be here long; that he wouldn’t need rest for a longer period of time than was necessary. He was safe here while his friends and family were – god knows where. His eyes closed tightly to fight the onslaught of emotion and as he walked, he felt eyes upon him. “Shadrack,” He addressed the man, “Please build me-
I will fill your hearth, Sir.
It was all he could do to not fall down, instead, he opened his eyes once more and held a hand out the wall so as not to fall over. “Thank you.

"Speech."

Kara Rae

Kara watched Blaze's gaze slip from hers to Shadrack, and down the hall. He emanated his emotions clearly as they filled the room and slid past Kara's 6th sense, making her worry that he would fall over at any time. As her hand was taken in his, eyes with concern filling them turned their attention first to their hands and then to his face. When he shook his head she tilted hers to the side just the tiniest but, hair falling over her shoulder. Mouth parted to speak, to tell him OK and bid him goodnight, but she stopped as he seemed to change his mind. Kara clenched her teeth as she disliked the out of place feeling washed over her. She had spent a lot of time either in black or white and being in a grey area knocked her off guard. On one hand, she would almost force her help on any one of her family or friends who was injured and stubbornly refusing help. However, on the other hand she felt like she walked a tightrope with Blaze and she didn't want to fall off the thin line she had to stand on with him so pushing herself on him, even to help, seemed like a bad idea. When he finally concented to her help she felt relieved that she didn't have to make the choice.

"Come on." she said, stepping to the side so he could lead the way to his room and intending to follow closely behind in case he would falter. Kara remained close to his back as he walked at a slow and labored pace. As his hand reached out to gain support on the wall she growled softly at herself, agitated that he had been this injured and this is the first time hes shown any signs that shes noticed. Gently she eased her way under his side and draped his arm over her shoulders. Her short frame was a stark contrast to his much taller one so she reached one arm around his torso to hold part of his weight for him, her other hand coming up to hold his arm on her shoulder. "Take it easy, I've got you." she said softly, rolling waves of energy and comfort off to attempt to cloud the pain or discomfort he was feeling along with give him enough strength to make it to his room.

Slowly Kara moved with Blaze to the room he specified, Shadrack opening the door as they made it through the threshold of the bedroom. The room was nicely furnished with a large bed to the center at which Kara led Blaze to and eased him down into the plushness of the mattress. The scent of his blood was apparent on his body but where it came from she wasn't exactly sure yet. Shadrack seemed to know that she would need medical supplies as he came with a tray of bandages, ointments and various objects, placing them on the table next to the bed. She mumbled a distracted "thank you" as she appraised the situation. Soft eyes lay on Blaze as the other man left the room once again, leaving them in general silence aside from the breath that fell from their lips, her heart pounding in her chest and the tick tock of the clock on the wall. She moved to stand in front of him, arms crossed as she worried for his state that seemed to have worsened rapidly. "Where are you hurt Blaze? I'll be quick so you can rest but you need cleaned up and whatever is bleeding needs to be stopped" she stated simply, her tone running soft and coaxing. As he answered she nodded, turning away and sorting through the contents of the tray of medical supplies.

There was a bowl of water and a cloth in it, already soaking and waiting for her. Silently she thanked the butlers readiness even in their odd situation. "He probably keeps this shit on deck for when Blade gets home from his fights.." Kara thought wringing out the cloth. Turning back around she looked at Blaze who seemed out of it, he needed to rest and she needed to get this over with. "I'm going to take your shirt off okay?" she told him, in warning before she removed his clothing. "Yea, give a warning that you're removing a shirt from the man you use to fu.." Nott cooed at Kara, although she couldn't finish her comment before Kara shut her out. A audible sigh was heard at Kara's obvious agitation at the unwelcomed commentary though she continued to reach for the hem of his shirt as if the exchange didnt happen. Sometimes she wondered if people though her insane, staring off into space and getting into arguements with someone seemingly not there. "They probably find you bipolar." came the echo that was readily ignored.

She lifted the hem of his shirt slowly up his torso, giving him time to move with her to take the shirt off before dropping it to the floor. Crimson eyes wandered over his body with more intent then she would ever admit to, though her eyes came to settle on his shoulder revealing the bruising on his right arm left from the open wound that clearly smelled of blood, gunpowder and wolfs-bane? Kara growled louder again and moved quicker this time, easing Blaze's shoulder forward slightly as she stood at his side  to get a better view. The blood was thick as it attempted to clot but the wound was large and she could see into the open skin. Kara climbed onto the bed behind him and knelt on her knees as she peered into the open bullet wound, spotting shards of various things stuck within his flesh. "Dont move." She instructed, the soft tone in her voice disappearing and becoming more urgent. The room seemed to darken as Kara formed a small black ball in her hand, pressing it to the open wound and sealing her hand on top of it. Blood covered her skin and dripped to the bed beneath then, though she paid no mind to the mess she made of the linen. The shadows spread through the bullet hole and engulfed the shards stuck in his body as it had the soldiers earlier. This process was slowly however because the smell of poison was apparent and the shards needed to be removed without ripping any more flesh then it already had. Kara remained quiet as she concentrated on pulling out the bullet though she was having trouble grabbing it. Every time Blaze would wince or make a movement from the discomfort she would freeze, an automatic reaction, though she lost concentration every time.

After some time, the ball emerged with shards of metal and what looked like glass. A larger chunk that was still intact as it had barbs on it, obviously designed to go in and not come out without doing more damage. This was something she had never seen before and the liquid that was still partially inside stunk with an aroma that instantly made Kara crinkle her nose in distaste. "They're getting smarter Blaze, this is barbed and poisoned..." she said, reaching a hand around with the fragments in her palm so he could see. After a moment she finished getting the pieces of dangling skin and excess debris out of the would leaving the only thing left to do is clean the area. Kara moved back off the bed and grabbed the tray, pulling the cloth out of the bowl and wringing it out once more. Carrying the tray back to the bed and resuming her previous position behind Blaze, the task of cleaning and bandaging the wound began. She took great care to clean the wound but it was apparent that the wolfsbane was already within his system. His skin turned a sick purple color around the open hole as the poison worked its way into his body. She apologized profusely as alcohol was placed on the wound to disinfect and clean it out. "This is a decent hole, it needs stitched." Kara said, placing her hand on his shoulder as she looked at his face. "I'm so sorry..." she apologized once again, reaching to grab the needle and stitching from the tray. With careful hands and a quick pace, she placed 10 stitches to close the wound. With the hole stitches shut the clotting would happen faster, giving her time to clean the remaining blood from the rest of his skin and placing a bandage on it.

Once finished, she gathered all the bloody items and garbage that was left behind on the tray and took them to the bedside stand. Her hands were covered in blood and she was mentally and physically tired. What she hoped would be a quick fix ended up being damn near a surgery and her medical skills were limited. There was a sense of pride that Kara had as she was happy with the work she did. Looking over her shoulder she peered at Blaze's form. "Ok, I'm done. You need to rest..." she said, looking from him to the pillow in a way of silently telling him to lay down. The wet rag was now serving to try and wipe the excess blood off her skin before she could leave.

"Everyone has a chapter they won't read out loud."

Kara had turned away and was focusing on getting the blood off her skin, wiping absentmindedly while she was silently lost in thoughts. "If they're putting wolfebane in their weapons then we have a real problem. Our numbers are already dwindling and this means they're doing research. "A sick feeling in her gut as the realization of their situation sunk in. Her attention turned back to Blaze as she looked over her shoulder to him still sitting on the edge of the bed. She frowned for a moment as she worried about his condition, he needed to rest and let his body recover. Her body turned the rest of the way as she noted his outstretched arms, taking a step forward to come within his reach. "You really need to rest" she urged softly giving him a small smile.

She didnt protest as her hands were taken into his, but when the cloth was removed from her grasp a she looked at him and shook her head. "You dont have to.." she said, the last of her words trailing off as he began wiping her skin until fair skin was exposed beneath the blood. It was a few moments of silence between the two of them before Blaze finished, and while she silently protested him moving and resisting her instructions, Kara relished in the tenderness in his touch and the closeness they shared.

His word was soft, barely audible as she stood there in front of him, eyes peering into his as she nodded softly. Gently she took the rag from his hands and placed in on the tray. "Alright, but only if you lay down and rest, Okay?" she said gently and sat on the edge of the bed with one leg dangling off the side and her body angled so she was looking at Blaze. She was patient and she waited for him to move at his own pace to lay on the bed. Once he was comfortable, she smiled softly and gazed upon him as she contemplated what they were going to do. Kara knew the signs of sever wolfsbane poisoning and she listened keenly for Blazes heart rate to watch for an abnormal acceleration.

Since discovering the bullet in Blaze, her mind twisted and turned and a mix of emotions flooded through her. Alleria and Tate were both out there and could have been or could be exposed to the same threat that her former mate was experiencing. Blade was also now in the mix and while the man was well on in terms of strength, any one of the were suceptable to poison. The fire burned brightly as her gaze slowly moved to the dancing flames. "You cant go out there tonight, Kara." Nott said, her voice more pleading then she would normally allow. Kara didn't bother answer however as she knew she wouldn't leave tonight, Blaze had asked her to stay and thats what she would do. Though once they were rested, that was a different story.

Teeth bit into her bottom lip as fears and possibilities played out in her mind, but she knew that she needed to worry about the task at hand. Her head turned as she looked at Blaze, laying on the bed next to her. While the room had a small assortment of furniture, none was big enough to stretch out. Her brow raised slightly looking at the empty space on the bed. "If i'm staying, then you're sharing." she said before laying on her side on the edge of the bed, facing Blaze.

"Power should only be given to those willing to lower themselves to pick it up."

As Kara stared back at him in silent contemplation, he could see the thoughts processing through her mind. He was afraid she might refuse him, insisting that he need rest and would get none with her there.
Truth was, he would get more rest with her present, rather than knowing she was so close but in the room next. The two had not lain together and slept beside one another for many years, since the days after Ashlyn was born to be true; and Benjamin longed for it more so now than ever. She was here, right here. Right in his hands, quite literally; and he longed for it all the more because of it.
They had both grown and he knew she would not run as she had once done, and he had not blamed her for that then, nor would he now. It had been his own doing, it was known, in the fact that he had been too cowardice to step up to the needs of his mate when members of his own pack had belittled her so.
She had begged for help from him, not in a superficial way, but it had been her disappearances, and the night he found her nude in the hollow of a tree. Half starved and shivering of the cold.
He'd taken her in arms and carried her over rough terrain and through the woods to take her back to the place that had made her feel such abandonment when he should have stolen her, Ashlyn and Aster and taken his small family else where.
The memory stung his already throbbing head; and upon its recollection, the pain in his shoulder radiated throughout his body in unison. It made him shiver, and he realized then, that Kara had agreed and was already almost upon the bed.
He had done his best to move over quickly, but he needn't worry as she took the space behind him before he had the chance to lay down.
Slowly and calculated, so as not to aggravate his wounds any further, Benjamin turned and lowered himself to the sheets on his left side, less than gracefully, grimacing as he did so, until he was facing Kara. His wound was in the air and off the sheets and he would have to remain unanimous to it if he was to sleep tonight. He made a mental note then, feeling the warmth of the fire at his toes, that once the woman before him had fallen asleep and he was sure she was resting, he would lie in the flames.
But for now, he lay beside his love, face to face and with his right and, ever so gently and without stretching the skin of his back, he took her and in his and kissed the back of it softly. "Thank you." Came the soft whisper from his lips.

"Speech."
Thoughts.

"Everyone has a chapter they won't read out loud."

The room was quiet save for the crackling of the flames in the fireplace and the breath between the two parties, her head lay settled deep within the plush pillow and she eyed Blaze warily as he adjusted himself on the bed. He moved carefully enough but still seemed to be in considerable pain, though since she was no healer there was no cure she could offer him to ease the discomfort. Crimson eyes were dull beneath heavy eyelids as she looked into the emerald eyes of Blaze. "I'm sorry I cant help with the pain." she offered, frowning softly as she hoped he would heal quickly. The wound was significant and she worried that he may reopen it with the movement, but he soon settled in next to her.

They shared a comfortable silence, both caught within their own thoughts on the situation at hand it seems and Kara found herself fighting sleep as she waited for Blaze to pass into blissful slumber first, unbeknownst to his plan to lay in the flames once she fell asleep. The bed was spacious enough to allow them to lay without coming in contact with one another and while Kara took station on the far side, the gap closed with their intertwined hand. A sleepy and lazy smile formed on her lips as the cool skin on her hand was pressed to his warm lips, the small utterance of thanks filled her ears with his husky voice. "Mhmm, dont thank me." she mumbled. She wished to curl her body up into his, feel the heat of his skin against her own but she dared not push the issue or him, instead she focused on the warmth enveloping her hand.

The unspoken truth was that she'd rather be here then anywhere else, laying alongside the only man shes ever loved or laid with. Her mind was cloudy with sleep and without restraint as her thoughts ran wild. She thought back over the last 12 years, the trials that led them to this point and the mistakes she longed to correct. Kara was too tired to feel the longing pulling from Blaze, or the sense of regret he seemed to hold over their past. She was oblivious to the thoughts that went through his mind which mirrored her own with a different tune. She held him to no fault in their failed past, it was her who was never strong enough to stand beside him through everything that came their way and whats what mates did. She wasnt deserving of the title she was given and it was her own fault.

Kara thought that this would never return to her, that she would always pine for something that she destroyed and that was her punishment that she would would have to endure. When she was a new mother she had ran, fear and ignorance pushed her away and she left her newborn daughter with a new father. She could not offer the life a pack would have provided her and Kara knew that Ashlyn was better off with them, but she shouldn't had left either way. After, she returned when Blaze had tracked her down to bring her home and the pack life resumed once again, but it wasn't long before she had gotten herself backed into another bad situation. A soft sigh slipped past her lips and eyes closed, pictures playing back in her memories like a movie reel.

She recalled the last time she left, driven out by Eclipse and the group that followed her. Again, she left in the night with nothing, leaving her mate to wake up alone and confused as to where she had gone. The time she spend as an outsider was tough, she had endured a lot on her own and she grew exponentially. The nights alone taught her to embrace herself and her powers. The time to recollect on herself taught her to be a better person. Kara didn't know when Blaze had started to forgive her, she wasn't sure why he seemed to want her again but she knew that this time around she would stay. "The gods themselves...couldn't take...me away." she mumbled so faintly that it was barely audible, thoughts meant to be silent and to herself slipping into voice unknowingly as sleep fully consumed her. . Her mind was made up that in the morning she would apologize for everything she had done.

Her sleep was restless, dark and violent. *It was bright, a fake light that covered everything. She stood exposed in the middle of it, stuck in her skin and unable to call for the typical comfort darkness would bring. Before she knew it, she was running but it seemed that there were people watching her, observing as Kara made no progress. She had an overwhelming feeling of oppression, fear and anger.* Outwardly she made small movements, soft growls and pants. Hair stood on end as her form started the change to shift but never completed. Although her sleep remained labored, exhaustion held her deep within its grasp through the night.

"Power should only be given to those willing to lower themselves to pick it up."

As the silence between the two lengthened, the distance between them had shortened. Covering his movements by way of looking restless, Benjamin was able to move close to Kara and by her actions, it seemed she didn't notice.
The threat of sleep was imminent in the both of them, but Benjamin was able
To hold out a little longer than that of Kara, his emerald eyes watched her from under lazy eye lids; and with a careful gentleness he followed he contours of the features upon her face. Their hands lay linked between them, the only thing that would e between them in this moment and he looked to them for a second. His thumb ran idly over her pale skin, a contrast to his honey complexion.
Still he remembered the short times they'd shared through out their lives. As they'd met, had their fallouts and moved away; to the time when Kara had stumbled upon the lands he had then governed as alpha male. She's not joined his pack, however, nor had he expected her too; but she hadn't left either. She had stuck around, despite his relations with Eclipse and she had been there for him wen Eclipse had left, as had everyone else.
He realised what a wonderful family he supported then, and he was foolish to step down from his role as leading male to see if perish. It had seems that Kara had taken some of the energies he was emitting during these thoughts as she too, unbeknownst to Benjamin, had been visualising the same things.
At the sound of her sleepy, hushed voice, his eyes snapped up to her lips, watching the words as they were uttered. For a moment he'd thought that perhaps she'd read his thoughts, that perhaps she had a new talent she'd forgotten to mention; regardless, the words were as music to his ears and in such an exhausted state, free from the judgement of his own mind and the incapacity to recover thoughts and any embarrassment or doubts that he may feel, he craned his neck, not without a wince and kissed her lips ever so softly, daring not to wake her.
With slow movements, he sat up, wincing silently and with only actions of his mouth moving, he got up to sand.
His body ached terribly but he forced himself to walk, feet carrying him heavily to the hearth. Upon reaching it, he climbed inside. The flames licked eagerly at his skin, seeping hot kindness into his wounds and he could feel it's fingers tending to his wounds there unlike any medic ever could.
He lay down with a soft sigh and quickly succumb to slumber.

"Everyone has a chapter they won't read out loud."

An unconscious smile formed on her lips as a kiss was placed gently against them, her sleep going on undisturbed as Blaze made his way out of the bed. As the night wore on, Kara barely moved from her position and her dreams continued. Every so often she would whimper or growl in her sleep along with soft hushed murmurs what were incomprehensible. As morning came, she awoke with a jump, sitting up in bed with wide eyes and heavy breath. It took a moment for her to remember where she was, realization dawning on her as she remembered the previous night.

Crimson eyes moved to the empty bed next to her, brows furrowing as she placed her hand in the indentation in the sheets. Kara worried that Blaze was up and moving already, fearing for his wound. With slow and stiff movements, Kara moved out of bed and stretched with a yawn. "Blaze?" she called out but got no answer. The only sound that could be heard in the bedroom was the crackling of the fire, turning Kara's attention to the flames. Eyes widened as she seen the body laying in the fire, almost unaccustomed to his unusual kinship with fire after all this time. He looked peaceful, as if he was sleeping as she made her way over to him, tilting her head to the side as she looked over his flesh. His body seemed to be healing at a considerable rate now that he was exposed to the flames, a feeling of foolishness flooding over her. "He might have been spared the unnecessary pain if he had not humored my medic skills if the fire was going to heal him this fast." she thought, a smile playing on her lips.

She didn't want to disturb him, as Blaze needed to heal but as her energy was restored it was time to go look for the others. Blade hadn't come back yet, and fearing the worse after last nights discovery with the bullet, she worried about their fate. Kara moved quietly through the room as she didn't want to disturb Blaze, knowing he would never approve of her leaving on her own. In her pocket she pulled out a phone and turned on the screen, looking through the few contacts at where her name was listed. Cell phones were new to her but it was a useful piece of communication that she had adopted from the humans as many of them have. On the table, she placed a note;
"Blaze,
I hope when you read this you are feeling better, I am going to go out and look for Blade, Alleria and Tate as i fear they could be in the same danger we found you to be in last night. Please stay here and rest, I will return as soon as possible. If something comes up, call me-5485681002
P.S.-I'm sorry for the past, I wanted to tell you in person but incase I dont make it back for a while just know that I really am sorry. Thank you for looking past my indescressions.
                                                                                                                     Love,
                                                                                                                       Kara

She placed the note on the table and walked out of the bedroom, down the hallway and through the storefront. Today she would find them or find information, Kara wouldnt return home until she had something to offer.
