Walking through the corridors of Death Manor, the house was starting feel less like a hostel and more like a home again. The last few weeks had been an... adjustment. The usually empty manor was suddenly full of life once again. The members of the Matashina covenant occupied the west wing of the house while the Death family slept in the East Wing and so far no one had another. Now no one was gathering around the campfire and singing kumbaya together but considering that the Death's weren't exactly known for playing nice, it was going as well as could be expected when you bring a bunch of powerful immortal beings under one roof.

Hope had been putting on a brave front, playing the warm hostess and trying to help everyone where she could. She basically tried to imitate her mother as best she could. But despite the house being full of family and friends, she was starting to feel the walls closing in on her. If there wasn't a supply or blood run to be organized then there was ox corp to worry about or she was trying to mediate arguments within the house. Not ot mention keepng her own skills and training up to par. She had gotten rusty, lazy in her training, something Knigh was all to keen to point out to her. That's what she had been doing that morning when she got a strange message from her brother.

Knigh's room in the basement had become somewhat of a sanctuary for her as she took out her frustrations on the equipment he had down there. Punching bags, mannequins, they all felt the brunt of her aggression. Thankfully Knigh never seemed to mind or at least never said anything when he returned to find a hole through his punching bags. Her training session was cut short today however when she received a text from her twin who was currently keeping an eye on their enemy  down at he docks. She wasn't sure what to make of it but thanked her brother. It could be nothing, she hoped it was nothing but she knew if she ignored it and something happened it would all fall on her shoulders, a burden she did not want.

Walking up the stairs, she turned to the West rather then the East, heading into the wing that the Matashina's resided in. Not taking the time to change, she was wearing a tight fitted tank top and a pair of shorts, that of course didn't mean she wasn't dawning her usual pair of heels that clicked against the floor as she walked. Slipping the phone into a back pocket, she stood at the door and gently knocked on the door of Ajax. She needed his opinion on this and in terms of leadership, there was no one else she could turn too. Her father was playing house with her insane mother, Ryu, her ex, had led his people for years and well but she couldn't talk to him, not yet. So, she found herself leaning more on Ajax then she had initially thought she would.

After a few moments of silence, Hope knocked again but still got no reply. " Ajax? " she said as she decided to let herself in. " You better not be naked. " she said as she stepped into his room. Looking around, it looked as though there was no one in there and she almost turned to leave when she spotted the back of his head against the armchair. Closing the door behind her, she stepped in and walked toward him. " Hey are you going deaf with old age? " she asked with a smirk teasing him as she did most people. She expected some witty retort or for him to turn and smile and agree and mock her about her youth but still it was only silence that greeted her.

" Ajax? " she called to him, still no response. " Are you taking a nap old man? " she chuckled thinking it that it had to a joke or something. Finally facing him, she was surprised to see nothing but a blank stare across Ajax's face. It was almost as if he were dead. Placing her hand on his shoulder, she gently shook him. " Hey anyone home? " she asked, no longer sounding joville but beginning to look concerned. " Ajax! " she shook him again with a little more force trying to get a reaction from what would appear to be the lifeless body before her. Hope didn't know what to make of Ajax, she hadn't seen him that way before but she didn't like it and once she snapped him out of it,he was going to have some explaining to do.

As with all things in the world time had its effect, ageing being a consequence. Human's would wrinkle and shrivel until their bodies would fade away, most other plant and creatures the same.
A select few species were seemingly immune to the passing of time or at least they appeared to be. But there was a reason that coming across a truly ancient immortal was a very rare thing indeed.
Where their bodies would only grow stronger, colder and harder to the changes around them. Their beauty only deepening as their faces marbled into perfect statues, the mind within was a completely different matter.

Ages came and ages fell away. Relationships bloomed and passed them by. Loved ones flourished and so very often died. Wonder eventually would turn into confusion and fear, sanity would slip away and so very often the ancients would either choose death over their impending incompetence or go to ground. Burying themselves away in the darkness to protect themselves but mostly to protect the world around them from the danger they would wreak upon their surroundings.

Ajax had been doing very well. He was no fool he had known of his decline for some time, half a century or more he had noticed things were not the way they used to be. But as with any leader he had fought it back for the good of his people. He had protected his family and carried them through the years when they could no longer carry themselves.
Only two people had known about the effect the passing of time was having upon him and he had come recently to find out both of those people were gone.

Sauri, his twin. Whom he loved so deeply he could never leave her had been taken from him. All leads came up dry and all stories led him to believe she was dead. He could no longer feel her via his bloodline and it had near destroyed him.
The Matashina coven merging with the Death coven had kept him strong, it had kept him busy and helping Hope had kept him focused.

But Genevieve, his partner, soul mate. She had been missing and he had been searching long and hard. He had left the coven for a few days only to return the night before, the news of his beloveds death crushing him.
He had seen her body, her lifeless beauty and he had longed to sink down into the earth beside her, to sleep that never ending sleep and to know the peace that he so desperately hoped she felt. But life was not that kind, it never had been. Not to Ajax Matashina.

He didn't know how he got home, he didn't know when. He became lost in his own mind. His memories carrying him away to better times. With those his heart had sung for. He was happy there and reality really didn't seem to matter anymore. He had them, he had their laughter.

His hand reached out to take Eve's within his own, Sauri laughing in the background when suddenly the world became unstable, shaking. The images of them flickering wildly before vanishing leaving him with a gasp of horror as blind eyes blinked back into sight. The Image of Hope looking some what concerned before him.
"Hope..." he was disorientated, grasping for some dignity in the act she had seemingly caught him in.
"Hope, is everything alright?"

Hope watched as Ajax became animated suddenly. She took a step back as she wasn't quite sure how he was going to react. Wherever he had been, it had been far away from where she was. Waiting a moment as Ajax seemed to get his bearings and then he turned to her as though nothing had happened. She raised her eyebrow wondering if his pride was stopping him from acknowledging what had just occurred with him. " Yeah everything is fine... are you? " she asked suddenly more concerned about the man in front of her then the message her brother had sent her.

She knew Ajax was old school, he was very proud and held himself to a high standard. Hope didn't want to embarrass him or make him feel uncomfortable. He had always treated her with respect from the moment he met her. It didn't matter that he was far superior to her in every sense, age, strength even his covenant was larger than theirs in numbers. He had never held her youth against her and he treated her as almost an equal. The older people in her life had always treated her as a bratty child even when she had tried to prove herself time and time again. Ajax almost seemed to enjoy her so called attitude problem and it had resulted in an unlikely friendship between the pair.

Trying to be respectful of his privacy, she moved on and explained why she was looking for him and subsequently let herself into his private quarters. Leaning against the wall and giving Ajax some space, she began to explain. " I got a message from Marcus at the docks. Apparently they've been getting more shipments than usual lately. Bigger crates and more often. " she stated clearly not taking anything that wretched company did lightly. " They want to know if they should investigate it more but I'm not sure if I want to risk it. " Knigh and Marcus were the people she was closest next to Destiny and she had already experienced Marcus's pain at the hands of Ox Corp and she did not want for either of them to go through that again.

" Then again, there could be weapons of mass destruction in those boxes and do we really want to risk them getting past us? " it wasn't a great position for Hope to be in. A part of her knew the answer but she didn't like it. Ox Corp were up to something, she knew that much and history had thought her never underestimate them. People's homes ended up being blown up when they didn't take that company seriously. So she wanted to know what was in those crates but to risk her family didn't come naturally to her and that's why she had come to Ajax. Although she wasn't sure that was such a good idea now given the condition she had found him in.

" I was just wondering what you thought was the best course of action but if you're busy with whatever it is you're doing in here, I'll take care of it. " she said trying to sound confident like she knew what she was doing and so far that act had been working. Then again she hadn't had to really enforce her will yet. She hadn't been throwing her authority around or at least she was trying not too for the sake of peace among the covenants. But as the stakes were slowly starting to rise, the pressure was mounting and Hope felt like she was slowly being boiled in a pressure cooker. The last thing she needed was to suddenly doubt the one voice she had been depending on.

By the expression on her face and the sound of her voice as she directed the question back at him he could only assume that he had been out of it for some time and that she had been standing there more then just a few seconds.
He shook his head to himself trying to clear it as he pushed out a light sigh moving to get to his feet.
This was no ideal. He was the pillar that propped Hope up, she needed him in order to flourish under the new pressures she had to face. He did not want her to doubt him, he also did not want to doubt himself and he was starting to.

Brushing down his jacket he glanced towards her now. She had sought him out and obviously she had something to say, the least he could do was try and pull it together enough to hear her out, he hated the thought of not being open to talk to her if she needed him.
"Yes, yes I am fine" he replied, his voice not as confident as he would have liked. In times of such pain he would go to Sauri or Eve to retreat and allow himself time to recover without the fear of judgement or appearing weak. Now he had neither of them. His very very long life he had never been completely alone.

Watching Hope she seemed concerned and conflicted as she spoke about news from Marcus and Knigh, she obviously didn't want to risk them but was concerned by not risking them she would be risking everyone else in the long run.

"Well if they did go and scope it out, I doubt they would be able to get the weapons or what ever the soldiers have away from them without being injured in the very least.
Would you like to simply assume the worst and act as though they have something very dangerous for us. Or would you like me to have Matthew go and find out?"
He took the option of her brother and uncle's well being out of it. But he would not make the choice for her. She needed to be able to lead, especially if he continued to slip.

Hope wasn't entirely convinced when Ajax told her the he was fine. Everything about his demeanour told her he wasn't but she wasn't sure if she wanted to push him on the issue. He was usually so open with her so she knew something was up if he was brushing it off as nothing. But she had to deal with the task at hand. She was trying to prove herself to him constantly. He had entrusted her with his people and trusted her to come through for him and she wanted to live up to these high expectations. Growing up she had been labelled as the problem child and no one had really expected anything of her. It was simplier and part of her missed it but now tht someone had actually believed in her, she didn't want to let him down.

He offered a solution and one that she liked. It meant that Knigh and Marcus would be safe but was it really fair to sacrifise Ajax's family over her own. She would always have a loyalty to her blood but she wasn't just the leader of the Death family, she was supposed to a leader to the Matashina's also and she didn't want to appear to be favouring one over the other. " I think with Ox Corp, you need to assume the worst. " she muttered as her mind tried to come up with a compromise. After what she had seen with Ajax she wasn't sure how good an idea it would be to send him into such a dangerous situation. There was also the fat she still needed him and she wasn't willing to risk him being captured or dying at the hands of Ox Corp.

Thinking for a moment, she suggested an option she hoped Ajax would approve of. " Well I don't think Knigh is listen if I tell him he can't go down there. " she smirked, the fondness for her uncle clear despite the fact the man seemed to be void of all emotion, something those close to him knew not to be true. " How about we switch out Marcus for Matthew, let Marcus come home for a couple of days. He's been at the docks for weeks. " she had missed her brothers presence in the home but secretly she was relieved to have him away for a time. His mental breakdown had taken a toll on her and landed her in this position in the first place. There was a part of her that believed that had Marcus been in his right mind when Ajax arrived, he would be the one standing here, not her.

Happy that she had come up with aa diplomatic solution, she turned her attention to Ajax and decided to ask him about his little " episode ". She didn't want to doubt him or question him, not when he was acting as her sole advisor. " So not that's sorted... " she said, a warning to him that the subject was about to change. " Do you want to talk about  your little trance thing that I walked in on? " she asked. Normally she would demand an answer for people, giving them no wiggle room but she respected Ajax to much for that. He didn't have to tell her and she certainly make a vampire with a few thousands years on her tell her but she hoped he would.

Hope seemed to be torn for a moment and it didn't take a genius to work out why. She obviously wanted to protect the people close to her, her true family but she was feeling conflicted. He paid attention to this hoping that she would prove herself to be the kind of leader he hoped she would be.
The Matashina's were her family now blood or not and by taking on the leading position she would have to treat them as such or the whole merger would be dead in the water before it even started.

He was silent, allowing her to work through it as she started to reply. Deciding on sending Matthew but also her uncle Knigh whilst bringing Marcus home. It was a good compromise and he was glad for her decision to not leave one of the Matashina's to go it alone, even though he felt more then confident that Matthew would have been up to the task alone.
He was proud that she had come to that decision and that she was willing to back up her unspoken promise to their families.

"Yes I am sure that is the best way to go. Tell Knigh that Matthew will be coming to join him and have your brother return, I think they will be fine"
Matthew needed to learn to work with the others and from what he knew Knigh was well seasoned in such things as far as he was concerned he thought it would go off without a hitch as long as both of them were professional with their actions and careful which he had no doubt they would be.

The change of subject was one he had hoped he would get away with but he was not shocked she had raised her concern. It was more then obvious she had caught him in a compromising state and now had some concern over why.
As much as he would have liked to hide his pain he sighed looking over her quietly for a moment. He had vowed to treat Hope as his equal and he had promised to be honest. Weakness was something he didn't freely admit to and it had got him far in life but he knew he would have to learn not to keep the front with Hope.
"Genevieve is dead. As far as I know Sauri is too" his words were matter of fact, he sounded some what calm but they were to smooth. He drew a steady breath and looked away from Hope sloping his gaze downwards as his eye brows knit forming a crease on otherwise solid looking flesh. He hadn't spoken those words before. He had told Caine of his concerns for Sauri, long before he knew of the fate of his sister and his loved Eve.
Now the two most important people to him were gone and he felt empty.
"They are gone, they slipped through my grasp... some how"

It wasn't easy, Hope would never be so openly vunerable with anyone except for maybe her brother once. But at every oppurtunity Ajax was proving himself and keepign his word, a trait she wasn't exactly accustomed to in the men in her life except for that of her uncle and twin. But as he spoke, a part of her wish he hadn't. Suddenly, Ox Corp wasn't a priority as Ajax told her of not only losing his lover but his twin, a feeling she had experienced and would not have wished on anyone. She and Marcus may not have been joined at the hip like they once were but she knew the emptyness of life without Marcus and unlike her, Ajax would not have the oppurtunity she had to get his twin back.

He looked away from her and she remained silent for a moment, letting the words hang over them. What did someone do in this situation? Sorry for your loss, seemed cold and distant and she wasn't exactly a hugger, she didn't take Ajax to be one either. She wasn't her mother, she wasn't about to go making deals for souls and opening that can of worms again. If these people were gone they were gone for good and there was nothing anyone could do about it. Once again, life or in this case death, had taken something irreplaceable and it was taking a toll on Ajax.

She let out a sigh as she stepped off the wall, still not knowing what to say but knowing she had to at least acknowledge what Ajax was going through. Closing the gap between them, she croutched down and placed her hand on his. Her fingers closing around the tattoo'd imprint of her lips. She squeezed it, offering some comfort and she hoped some support to get him through this. She had selfish motives for doing so. She needed him, he was the only reason she was somehow pulling this merger off with a hitch so far. She did not want him to spiral into a depression that he could not recover from, leaving her to manage the house alone.

Releasing her grip on his hand, she stood up once again, flicking her hair behind her. " So it's agreed then, I'll text Marcus, tell him to come home and I'll talk to Matthew. Tell him what the story is and make sure he doesn't fall into any of Knigh's traps at the dock. " she smirked, giving Ajax that classic Hope smile. She wouldn't bring up Genevieve or Sauri again unless he did first. She wouldn't baby him and ask him if he was ok all the time unless she was actually concerned about his well being. She wouldn't disclose to the rest of the coven what he had told her unless he wanted too so as far as she was concerned, it never happened. She respected him and his privacy and she would like to think that she was more than just a would be leader to him, she'd like to believe she was his friend.

Silence fell between them in what was probably an awkward moment for Hope, it probably should have been awkward or more devastating for him as well but his mind was desperately trying to protect itself and in those moments of silence it tried once again to plunge him back into the happier moments he had been remembering or imagining when Hope had broken him from his wakeful slumber.
Sounds of gentle laughter filled his ears, both Sauri and Eve seeming to find something amusing. It was out of his reach, he found he was not in on the joke his mind swaying into reality and back out.

Hope pulled him back once again as her hand met the tattoo upon his own. His eyes looked upon them and he took the moment of reassurance thankful for her grace about what he had said to her. He was happy that she didn't respond with some sort of dramatic show of emotion as in all honesty he was unsure he would have been able to cope with it.

The way she moved on was swift and once again he was thankful. She changed the subject and didn't allow him to dwell upon it.
He rose his head once again and straightened up as she took charge of the situation at hand making her decision and deciding how to move forward with it.

"Yes.. That is the best way" he replied gathering his composure once again. Do you have means to contact Matthew or would you like me to pass along his number to you?"

The pair seemed to know what the other was thinking as they moved on without ever acknowledging what had been said about Ajax's loss. They knew that their priority had to be the household as much as they could both wallow in their own self pity, it wasn't an option anymore. She nodded and smiled and tried to pretend that she wasn't worried but she knew the toll a loss like this could take on a person. Hope worried she may have to stand on her own two feet sooner then she had anticipated.

She chuckled as Ajax asked if she had a way of contacting Matthew. " You can give me his number but I am sure I'll find him sulking around here somewhere. " she teased knowing he had been here recently and couldn't have gotten far. It was a good opportunity for her to start interacting with the Matashina coven other then say hi and show them around. She couldn't avoid leading them and with Ajax down for the count, she was going to have to step up.

" I'll talk to Matthew first. I don't want to leave uncle Knigh on his own for too long. He'll get impatient and just go himself. " she said knowing her uncle all to well. Knigh wasn't one for waiting to do anything so Hope wanted to get on this as soon as possible so her brother didn't get roped into it. As much as she loved him she was still concerned with him after his breakdown and she would never forgive herself if something happened to him. Plus it made her look good in front of Ajax to send a mix from both covens.

Entering Matthews number on her phone, she smiled as Ajax and headed toward the door. " I'll keep you updated via the phone. " she said not really wanting to disturb him again in case he was in one of those trances again. She also wanted to give him the space and peace to grieve in private. " I'll be in KnOT's office if you need me. " she added, her way of letting him know she was there for him should he want her. A part of her hoped he wouldn't as she was not very well equipped to deal with this. Hope was a grin and bear it sort of girl, Marcus and her mother were always better at consoling then she was. She only hoped he would be able to tough it out as she had in the past for the sake of not only himself but everyone now living under their roof.
