rocks.

Post by Matthew M on Sun 27 Aug 2017, 16:35

Matthew was in a good mood as he returned to Death Manor, he had swag in his step and a whistle upon his lips. He for the most part had managed to get along with Knigh, they had worked efficiently together and had each others back when it mattered and it turned out that the guy had some fucked up hatred for the soldiers which equalled his own.
They had got in and got what they wanted, getting evidence in pictures on their phones which he had sent through to Hope and to Ajax before leaving the blood soaked docks to return to Death Manor.
They had ripped the men apart, they had not known what hit them and had only just managed to call for help just as the two vampires finished with them, they had gotten away easily before back up came and both of them had both only sustained minor injuries.
He had some silver shrapnel injuries to the left side of his face and shoulder but they had all been superficial and easy to remove. He had picked them out as he walked and they would only take a few hours to recover, other then that he was unscathed, his shoulder aching but that was nothing new since sustaining the injury.

Dancing in the front door he started to strip off blood and guts soaked clothing as he walked towards his room keeping each item of clothing in his hand before he vanished into his room getting himself a quick shower to cool off and clean up.

Within ten minutes he was back out again. A white towel wrapped around his lower half, another smaller one upon his shoulders catching any water droplets which fell from his hair. Still whistling he walked from the Matashina side of the coven to Hope's.
Coming to the door he knocked his knuckles against it twice “Honey, I'm home” he called, his mood obvious. Killing those men had gone a long way to levelling off the angst and anger he had been feeling since arriving in Death coven, he had flexed his true self and he felt great for it. Ajax probably wouldn't have approved with his methods but he didn't care he felt relief and it showed.
“Come on, I'm all wet, let me in!”

H O P E . D E A T H - R E I G N
Vampire || Wraith

Sitting up on her bed, Hope was spending some down time going through her grandfather's journals and updating her own. She had already got a training session in that day but today she had managed to change out of her gym wear and she was in her favourite pair of blue jeans with the knees exposed and a black v-neck tank top. Her hair was down as usual and she was in her bare feet as she normally was in her room. She was actually enjoying her time to herself, with the blood supply now secured for the family, she was able to relax a little. But the issue at the docks was still playing on her mind. Nothing about Ox Corp sat well with her but especially not when they started doing things out of the ordinary.

However her solitude was disturbed by a rapping on her door. Smirking as Matthew greeted her as honey, she rolled her eyes. She closed the journal and sat on the side of her bed. She had taken rather well to Matthew. Unlike his sire, he was laid back and funny. For a vampire as old as he was, he acted more like someone her age. He was cheeky and Hope liked his flirtatious demeanour with her. It had been an age since any man had shown any interest in her and Matthew's interest was doing wonders for her ego. She had to admit she was enjoying flirting with him back. It was nice to not have to be serious all the time although she had to remember that Ajax was his sire and that there were boundaries there.

Confused, she moved a little quicker toward the door when she heard he was wet. Had he gotten caught in the rain or something? Placing the journals in her bedside locker, she moved toward the door and opened it. Her jaw almost dropped. She stared as Matthew stood in front of her in nothing but towels, water droplets moving through the definition of his muscles. His hair was slicked back with water and the towel wasn't leaving much to the imagination. Forcing her eyes up, she moved aside. " Come in.. " she said clearly surprised that he had come to her bedroom dressed in only a towel. " Were you looking under the dock or something? " she asked jokingly as she shut the door behind her.

Moving toward her bed she sat on the edge, looking at his back as she did so. It was starting to heal properly now much to Hope's relief and he didn't seem to have any additional injuries from his trip to the docks with Knigh. Sitting on the edge of her bed, she crossed her legs and tried to look anywhere but at Matthew's body. Now she had a moment to think about it, she began to wonder if it was such a good idea to let him into her room like that. She didn't want rumours to circulate and she certainly didn't want Ajax getting wind of Matthew coming into her room with nothing but a towel on. She was only just beginning to flex her muscles as a leader and with her ex-boyfriend living under the roof, she didn't want it getting around she was sleeping around with the new Coven members, even one's as gorgeous as Matthew.

Brushing her fingers through her hair, she swept it to one side as she skipped the pleasantries and got straight to the point. " So are you going to tell me what happened or should I just tune into the six o'clock news? " she chuckled knowing that he had undoubtedly made his presense known. He hadn't exactly been in a bad mood before, but she knew the euphoria he was experiencing all too well. Nothing compared to the rush you got when you had caused an absolute bloodbath and when it was Oxen Corp blood, it made it so much sweeter. She was almost jealous as she imagined the carnage he and Knigh had probably caused while she was stuck here trying to keep the place together and having her tensions mount up, only to take it out on Knigh's equipment but with no other outlet, she had no choice but to grin and bare it and hope Knigh restocked on punching bags sooner rather than later.

She opened the door and her shock at his state was obvious, it pleased him enough to give her a broad grin as he moved into her bedroom and out of the hallway and sight of prying eyes. Not that he cared, Hope was hot he didn't give a shit if anyone thought something was going on there, it was none of anyone's business what they did with their private hours.
Taking a breath as he moved inside and watched her  move away from him he flexed out his arms in a show of triumph, he had smashed the job she wanted and all without breaking so much as a sweat.
“No, a swim would have been nice I guess. Just had a shower, wanted to wash the guts out of my hair. It wasn't a good look” he laughed “Colourful though”

Out of all the places she could have chosen to sit she chose to sit on the bed. Not the chair, not the window ledge but the bed and his eyes roamed her sheets, her pillows and then here with a glint to his eyes he once again made no attempt at all to conceal.
She tried to play it cool and she did a pretty good job of it but he hadn't been around as long as he had without knowing how to read a body, she was flustered by him and he loved it, it had him on edge and in a good way.

“You could look on the news if you want, I mean you'd see all the pretty pictures and everything. I texted and emailed you and Ajax pictures of what the shipments contained. They have some sort of weapons being mass produced, they look nasty” he knew bad times were coming but all they really could do was prepare and brace themselves.
He was more then willing to go down fighting in a blaze of glory to protect his family and to take out as many of those twats as possible. But he damn well wanted to have fun first.

“Hm you smell nice” he muttered taking a few steps towards her, making his intentions clear and giving her all the time in the world to swat him away like an annoying fly. “Are you impressed?”

Once again she found herself genuinely laughing in Matthew's presense. Not smirking, not giggling but laughing. It wasn't something heard all that commonly in these halls. Ranting and raving yes, that was normal. Even the odd time you could have once heard her singing as she went about her day but it had been a long time since she had been that carefree. In fact it was  probably in Rose Lodge, her childhood home that was now in ruins because of Oxen Corp. That company had much to answer for and Hope was not sure that she would ever get the vengeance she wanted or needed to make up for the lifetime of misery.

However, hearing that Matthew had guts in her hair gave her a warped sense of joy. It was a small victory, they hadn't had may so she hoped that with this, it was the beginning of what would be many victories against them. " Lucky.. " she muttered as she could only imagine the way he had painted the docks with their blood. Although once the news hit the tv she wouldn't have too. The conversation was lighthearted and even a little heated between the pair but in a good way. But hearing that Matthew had e-mailed her pictures her attention was turning to her phone.

Reaching across her bed, she found her phone where she had left it on silent. She always turned it off when she was writing in her journal. Now, she had missed something important and more importantly deadly. Scrolling, her humour and laugh was gone as she looked seriously at the pictures. As much as she wanted to enjoy the pictures of mangled corpses, she was more concerned about these weapons Matthew was referring too. Why the hell would Ox Corp be upping the arsenal now? Their numbers up until the Matashina's arrival, had been the lowest ever. Immortals all over the continent were dwindling. Why would Ox Corp.....

An unnatural feeling ran through Hope as her worst nightmare suddenly seemed to be becoming a reality all over again. As she looked at the photo's flickers of memories become to flash through her mind. She had seen weapons like that before, she was certain of it and if her memory was serving her right this was bad, really really bad. Her mind was so consumed by this thought that she hadn't noticed Matthew moving closer toward her. Glancing up, she had barely registered what he had said. " Yeah Matthew... great. " she said as she stood and headed toward the door. All signs of the fun loving Hope gone as she imagined the impending threat that was now looming over them.

" Did you see Ajax? I need to see him. " she said glancing between him and the phone. She was no longer distracted by Matthew's wet rippling body or his flirtatious advances toward her. The time for games was over and if Hope was right, as she usually was, then everyone who was under her roof right now was in serious danger and she had to do something about it while they still had a chance. " Thanks for this Matty.... but I need to go. " she said opening the door. She wouldn't normally leave a half naked guy who was asking for it standing like that but being leader was about putting her family before herself and getting her rocks off right now was not a priority.

Glancing back at the phone, she felt sicker every time she saw those weapons. She thought that she would never see rounds like that again but Matthew's injury should have been the first clue. UV rounds were so rarely used these days. Ox Corp tended to use silver, it was cheaper and most of the time just as effective. But for them to be bringing in weapons like that , it could only mean one thing. Leaving Matthew alone in her room to his own devices, she walked quickly in search of Ajax. She knew Ajax was grieving but he would be grieving a lot more if they didn't do something about this. Hope had seen the devastation those weapons caused before and she and her family were lucky to have made it out alive and she wasn't sure if they could do it twice.

Knocking on Ajax's door rather rapidly she stared at the screen. She shook her head in disbelief. One word flashed before her mind sending waves of fear through her. A word that had already changed the face of their world once and could destroy it completely if Ox Corp were about to do what they thought they were going to do. Knocking on the door again Hope was starting to panic. Her usual cool and calm demeanour was fading as she suddenly felt a huge burden coming down on her. How was she going to tell Ajax? How, after everything he had lost was she going to tell them that something worse was coming. That Ox Corp were planning another Eradication and the ultimate end of their kind. Piece of cake...

At first his advances seemed to be going well until she looked at the blasted messages anyway. All eye contact ceased and she seemed to become distracted and then distressed by what he had shown her. Sighing he came to a stop and halted from moving any closer to her, it was a pointless endeavour for that moment but it didn't mean he would stop from trying again in the future as Hope had caught his full attention. Maybe living in the coven house wouldn't be so bad after all despite making him feel like he was a Bear stuck in a dog kennel.

"No I didn't see Ajax" he replied hiding his disappointment replacing it with a look of boredom. Ox Corp were always going to try and make a move again, if her and Ajax had thought they would not they were fools. It had only been a matter of time and in his opinion there wasn't much else they could do to prepare then they had already been doing. He also didn't think it was a fight that they could win, he had warned his master of that before. Ajax had been to proud at the time to listen to his protege.

"See ya Hope" she had called him Matty and he smiled, No one really called him that anymore Enya seeming to have grown out of it.
He stepped aside and let her go. "He is in his room" usually he could sense where Ajax was as long as close enough.
"Go easy on him" he shouted after her.

Matthew had messaged him pictures and it hadn't taken him long to piece together that Hope had sent him on a mission to the docks to acquire some information on what the soldiers had been doing in the last few weeks.

There had been a lull in activity so he had suspected something but as he flicked through the pictures he felt that same old fear returning to him. Not a fear for himself but a fear for his people, they had only just escaped Lacrimosa, there had been losses, their loved ones had perished. Not to count the first eradication and now by the looks of it another one was on the way this time he had a much larger family to worry about.

He had placed Hope in charge and she was proving to be a capable leader but she was so young and he had now just thrown her to the loins, Ox Corp would soon be knocking on the doors and he didn't think they were ready. He hoped he was wrong.
But he did not feel like he was in a position of power, he had been slipping and he was unsure whether he could carry them through another storm when a bigger one was waging inside his own mind.

Hope's knock pulled him from the brink of another trace. "Enter" he called standing to attention for when she entered the room.
Bowing his head he tried to hide any concern from his features. The last thing she needed was to know just how vulnerable and exposed he was feeling, She needed a steady hand to guide her.

Stepping into Ajax's room she was at least happy to get a responce back this time. She had been concerned about him after their last chat. He had been elsewhere mentally but having been told about his sister and his lover, she had put his strange mood down to grief. However Ajax was going to have to put his grief aside at least for now. What they were facing was far greater then any individual in the house. Ox Corp had already killed one ancient wshe knew of, Ajax might have wanted to believe his twin was missing but Hope figured powerful ancient vampires didn't just go missing, not if Sauri was anything like Ajax or Matthew. She didn't want to think about what they would do to the few who remained who weren't ancient or as powerful.

" Ajax, have you seen these pictures Matthew sent? " she asked, looking less calm as she showed Ajax the pictures on her phone just in case he hadn't. " Do you know what they are? " she asked not giving him the chnace to respond. " I remember those weapons Ajax. The last time I saw a weapon like that, they eradicated the whole city. " she said. She was doing her best to remain calm but the thought of another Eradication was terrifying. It had been years since the last one and she honestly thought that they would never see another one. Their numbers hadn't justified it but with all the demon shit going on and the Matashina Coven arriving, had they brought this on themselves?

Taking back her phone, she put it in her pocket and began pacing. She folded her arms across her chest and tried to think of something, anything, that might help. " I'm worried Ajax, I know this house is protected but it's only a matter of time and I don't know how long this magic mumbo jumbo will last. " Hope hadn't met these witches that her mother seemed to have befriend. She wasn't even sure where or how her mother had met them in the first place. The only clue she had was something written in KnOT's journal about a cafe called the Cats Eye that her mother seemed to work in some time for a witch called Blaise. Maybe if her mother regained some of her sanity back she could give Hope her connection but the chances of that were slim given her mother had made little in the way of improvement. She made a mental note to check on her mother later but for now she had to focus on the problem at hand. Her mother was Karne's problem now.

She was still pacing, running her hand along her hair, trying to keep it together in front of Ajax. She was trying to be strong and be the leader Ajax thought she could be. But this was way out of her league. She had spent most of the last Eradication in Jia with Ryu. She was lucky enough to have missed the worst of it by the time she arrived home. However there was no hiding from it this time. She was expected to lead both Coven's for better or for worse and it seemed like the worst was coming and coming fast. " We can't fight them.. " she said sounding defeated. " We will drop like flies against weapons like that. " as much as it killed her, she wasn't stupid and she didn't have a death wish. As much as she wanted to bring those Ox Corp bastards to hell, she wanted to survive more, she wanted her family to survive more and she wasn't prepared as their leader or their family to send them on a suicide mission.

She stopped pacing and sat in one of the large armchairs in the room. She sat forward, resting her elbows on her knees and hanging her head, her hair hanging and covering her face. She sighed and shook her head, it was clear she was hitting a brick wall. She had no idea what to do, they couldn't stay, they had nowhere to go and fighting would mean death. She couldn't see a way out that protected everyone. Her back was against the wall and all she could see were outcomes where people, people she was responsible for lost their lives. The burden was overwhelming and it was the first time, Hope was showing signs of cracking.

“Yes Hope, I have seen them he sent them through to me as well” he stepped aside to let Hope in. She seemed to be panicking and in a tail spin which is just what he hoped would not happen but also what he knew would happen. He was hoping she would surprise the both of them, this was not a reflection of her but a purely selfish desire due to the fact his mind seemed not to be able to stay on task as well as it should have.
He forced himself to focus as he closed the door going across to stand near to her, facing her as she paced about ranting about her worries and her concerns, She was right about every one of them.

“And worried you should be, as am I” she had stopped pacing now and lowered herself into a chair, her phone away from his gaze once again as she seemed to calm to a quiet panic instead.
Sighing he moved across the room to take a chair himself sitting down he sighed.
“I have seen weapons like that before also. There is no doubt that the humans intend on making a very violent and very successful move against our kind”
He had failed to protect all of his people the first time and they had fallen to their deaths the thought of that happening again made him feel sickened yet he remained looking passive about it. Hope did not need to see him looking emotional it would do nothing at all to help her, or their coven.

“Many moons ago in arrogance I would have told you that we stand here in our strong hold and we fight for our home. I would have been wrong. I was wrong and my people suffered for it, their loyalty cost us all. This time I know better. We can not stand and fight, we saw what they could do last time and undoubtedly technology and information is now more advanced and available to them. This time will be worse if we do not act before the hammer is to fall”
He was unsure on how they would act, he was unsure if they could. It was not as easy as the words he spoke.
“I think we need to look for alternatives to our living arrangements. We may have to flee, Hope” it was against the nature of creatures like them. Especially him but he knew he had to stow away any pride he felt now for the good of his coven. “We will need to run”

" We will need to run. "

The words made Hope look up from behind her curtain of hair. Was he serious? The look on hisface had answered that question. It wasn't something she had ever considered. Arcane and the Blackwoods despite Ox Corp, had always been her home. She had already lost one home at Ox Corp's hands, was she seriously about to consider abandoning the only other home she had ever known as well as the historical family home. All of her family had resided within these walls at some point, these were sacred halls as far as she was concerned and was she going to be the one that told her family that they would have to leave possibly never to return? The prospect was daunting.

Sighing, she rose from the chair and moved toward the window. She folded her arms in front of her body as she looked out over the grounds. She tried to imagine what her grandfather would do which wasnt hard. Reading his journals was like reading the man's mind. He would have called his family home and prepared them for war even if it meant losing them all. He would have done in the name of honour and standing up to their enemies. The Death name came with a heavy burden. She inheritated all their enemies at birth and was expected to live up to some kind of family code that no one had bothered to teach her but expected her to know. But she wasn't a Death, not completely. She was also a Reign, her father's daughter but also Arashi Reign's grand-daughter and despite not having her name sake she was a Blake.

Her mother, had taught her that no matter what you sacrifised yourself for your family. You swallowed your pride and no matter what the cost, you made sure your family made it to the next day. Hope might not have agreed with everything her  mother had done but they had survived. She was still here, Marcus and Destiny was still here even her uncle Knigh. Her mother had sacrifised time and time again and their family had lived on. Maybe it was time for Hope to take a leaf out of a new book and start making some sacrifices of her own. Sighing, she had made a decision, she didn't like it and she imagined that a lot of her family wouldn't either but what choice did she have. They were sitting ducks in the manor and she wasn't about to sit around and wait for them to come and pick them off.

Turning her back to the window to face Ajax, she seemed calmer but not any happier. " Ok... " she said feeling resigned but knowing Ajax was right. They couldn't fight and they couldn't wait. They had to get out of there but where she had no idea. " But where are we going to go Ajax? Your home is gone, mine's about to be. I mean this was supposed to be it right? The merger in this house? This was supposed to be the master plan. " she was feeling defeated. It wasn't in her nature to give up. In all honesty, despite her cold exterior, Hope would have fought Ox Corp single handedly if it meant protecting her family. How would it look if her first duty as leader was to tell them to run? Would they think her a coward and lose respect for her? Was she sabotaging her chances before she even had one?

" What if the others don't want to flee? We can't make them... can we? " Hope wasn't the kind of girl who left anyone behind but given how grievous the situation was what choice would she have. She was not about to sacrifice a whole coven because one of coven decided to be a martyr. She was learning the hard way that the needs of the many were greater than the needs of the few and for a girl who used to be only concerned about the needs of one, it was a tough pill to swallow but she was doing her best despite the circumstances. She hoped that with Ajax's guidance, they could come up with something because otherwise she had no idea where she was going to bring two covens of vampires and while she tried to figure it out, Ox Corp and their impending doom was coming closer.

She did not like what he had to say, that was clear by the look in her eyes as he said the words and then again as she repeated them to him. He did not blame her, it would have been a daunting task if they had not been through all they had already been through but now after everything it would be all that worse. This was not what he had wanted for Hope's first months as head of the family it was not what he wanted for himself and for their people. The humans were once more forcing them out. Running... it felt like it was all he did these days. A creature like him running would have been unheard of even fifty years prior but the human scourge were so more advanced now for the first time in the history of vampires the humans had the upper hand. The chain of power was shifting and he hated it. He had hoped to never bare witness to such events in his life line. He had lived to long. The thought had been bugging him, a relentless notion that refused to leave his mind, scratching away at him. 'You have been alive to long Ajax' over and over. Yet now was not the time. He may have been ready but the others were not and he could/would not leave until they were safe.

She looked at him beseeching wisdom, needing answers and he felt worthless in that moment. He had none.
Shaking his head he lowered a hand to his shirt pocket withdrawing one of him cigar thins. He often smoked them in solitary in his own but the questions she asked called for it. He offered her another waiting an appropriate amount of time before withdrawing and lighting his own. His eyes closing briefly while he tried to call answers.

Retreating across to a chair he sat down, left leg crossing loose over the top of the right his head tilted and eyes upturned to the ceiling.
“We can not make any that do not want to follow, follow. But they will follow” he knew they all would. It was that or they died.
“We need to reach out to others, not just others like us but we need to reach out to all Immortals and hope that someone responds. Hopefully they will have some resources or they will know of somewhere we can all flee to”
It sounded so much like weakness to him. It sounded like giving up and hoping for others to save them but over the years he had learned that some times you do have no other choice then to reach out in the darkness and hope that someone reaches back.
“I will start making some calls as soon as I leave here... allow me to rest a moment though?” he was tired, dog tired in a fatigue he hadn't felt before. Hope had suspicions about him he knew that and he had tried to hide them but was losing that battle.
“I know many. Hopefully some will help”

Rest? As worried as Hope was about the covens future, her concern was beginning to shift to that of the man mentoring her. Ox Corp were preparing to end this war with their annihilation and Ajax wanted to rest. This sent off all kinds of alarm bells. Apart from the fact that it was still dark out, Ajax shouldn't have needed much if any sleep. Hope was considerable younger and even she could stay awake for a few days at a time. Ajax being as old as he was should have been able to go virtually without sleep, why, of all times, was he choosing to rest now. None of this was making sense. Hope had only known him a short time but she was perspective. The Ajax she had originally met was different to the one who stood before her. The man before her didn't seem like the kind of guy who would get a spontaneous hot pink tattoo of her lips on the back of his hand.

She looked at Ajax and the man before her seemed broken. She knew he had experienced great loss. He had lost a lot of his coven, not to mention his twin and his lover. Hope could only imagine what it would be like to lose Marcus and Ryu at the same time. She had lost them both of them separately and she knew the pain but she had gone on, she was still here. She had lost her home, her mother, her father, her step father, her brother and Ryu. Some had returned, others had not but no matter her loss she had gone on. She wasn't sitting in a dark room staring off into space basically unresponsive. She had wanted to put his odd behaviour down to grief but the more she thought about it, the more her instincts told her there was more to this then just grief. You didn't get to Ajax's age without losing people.

Why had Ajax entrusted what was left of his coven to a girl he barely knew and many many times his junior? If he had all these connections that he spoke of why had he not reached out to them? Yes the Death family had a reputation but they were hardly the powerhouse they had been under her grandfather's rule. The family was not mostly consisted of her and her siblings whose ages added up barely made up a human life span. It was hardly a safe bet on Ajax's part considering the age of most of his members. It's not as though Death Manor was any safer and it had gotten his Coven away from danger. They were in just as much danger in the Black Woods. No the only reason Ajax would do this is if Ajax wasn't going to be around for much longer and he knew it.

Staring at Ajax and she leaned back in the chair. Hope had been respectful of Ajax and his privacy this whole time. She only came to him if she wanted advice but how could she trust his advice if he was keeping things from her? For the first time, she had realised that Ajax was as much apart of her new coven as the others and for the first time, she was going to treat him as such. " Ok.. " she said preparing herself. She had a feeling that Ajax might not like this.  " Ajax, I trust you and that's not an easy thing for me to do and I get you are grieving but there is something else going on here. " Hope was possibly poking a lion here but if Ajax wanted her to be a leader then he would have to at least respect where she was coming from even if he didn't like it.

" Are you sick? Are you dying? Are you planning on offing yourself? " It was a grim prospect but it wasn't unheard of. Ajax had been around a very long time and with everyone he loved dead, she could see why he would see little reason to live. Whatever it was, she couldn't make plans for their future unless she knew if he was going to be it. She refused to be blindsided and if he trusted her at all, he would be honest now. " Whatever is going on with you, I need to know. " she wasn't going to beg and neither was she going to demand that he tell her. That's not how she wanted to be seen. Her grandfather went from leader to dictator and she didn't want to make the same mistake. However if Ajax tried to pass this off as grief or fob her off, she wasn't sure how she would react. She hoped he wouldn't put her in that position.

Seeing Hope's obvious discomfort at his request he straightened up in the chair a light sigh upon his lips. He had wanted to slump into it and close out the world for a few moments but it appeared that was not about to happen, those luxuries were reserved for the young and not the old ones such as himself.
He had bee careless to let her see him in a moment of fatigue but he hadn't thought. He had been doing that a lot recently, not thinking things through and then regretting he had not shielding himself better. Hope was as sharp as a blade but she was young he didn't think she would see anything wrong with someone in his position needing to rest after the week he had been through. But she knew better and the scene back in his room had not helped.

She was pressuring him despite trying not to and he smiled lightly. Asking such of him must have been a daunting task for her yet she didn't shy away from the discomfort she ploughed on and came straight out with her. He was almost distracted by how proud of her that made him feel but he managed to keep himself in the moment for now. She wanted answers and she was right, he needed to provide them and he could trust her digression the same way she had trusted him.

Glancing at the tattoo upon his hand he ran his index finger over it tracing the outlines while he grasped for a decent way to explain the situation he had found himself in.
This was a first for Ajax. At his age firsts did not come often and it made him uncomfortable. He was the oldest being he knew, all ancients older then him were in ground, in hiding or he had slain them in cold blooded revenge for what they did to his people all those years ago when they dared to force their control upon him, much like the human's were doing now.

His metallic silvered eyes moved to focus on her, she did not hide her concern and once again he smiled a little, knowing now that her words were more then just words, she cared for him.
“I have never witnessed this happen to another so I am unsure of exactly what is going on.
I am sure you have heard tales of the ancients walking into the flames or going under the earth never to return?” the words felt uncomfortable to him. He was Ajax Matashina it was unheard of for him to retreat in such a way. Pride simply could not allow for him to.. could it?

“The reason for this is that the mind degenerates with age. As a body of a mortal would. The world ceases to make sense and they can not trust their surroundings and eventually as far as I understand they can not trust themselves. They regress to a state of confusion and often fear where the silence of the earth or the finality of death is the only real option. If you can image it, an ancient possibly has the strength to destroy countless others one gone rogue can be a huge threat. It is not unheard of that their own covens will destroy them”

He didn't want to frighten her but she had asked for the truth so he would give it to her. When he thought about it he had to admit the prospect was also frightening for him, he had always relied upon his mind to navigate his family's way through life. Those that made it through brawn alone never lasted. He had so much to teach Hope and she was so very young but the way things were going he would have much less time then he had anticipated and he refused to become a burden on those who needed him, whom he loved.

“Now I do not know exactly what is 'going on' with me. And hopefully that is not what is happening, but I have never experienced the fatigue of the mind which I have been feeling before.
I do not wish to fail anyone Hope. I loathe the thought that at some point I will no longer be able to carry this family, but I can not been a fool, I have to at least consider that my days are numbered”

H O P E . D E A T H - R E I G N
Vampire || Wraith

There was a moment where Hope waited tensely as she tried to gauge Ajax's reaction. She couldn't imagine that anyone had spoken to Ajax the way she had in some time if ever and she wasn't sure how Ajax would take it. But she was so sick of people trying to " protect her ". Hope didn't have patience for people who kept this stuff hidden anymore. Her whole life people had been hiding things, her mother was the perfect example. For years her mother had kept her troubles to herself and what had it gotten them. Marcus and her mother had lost their sanity, Destiny had been in literal hell and for what? If her mother had just been honest maybe they could have saved her from it instead of having to suffer the consequences. Hope wondered if Ajax would follow her mothers footsteps or if he would be a man of his word and be honest as he had promised.

Leaning back into the chair, she gave him her full attention. She could see he was clearly debating on what he was going to tell her. But as usual he seemed to side with honesty, a trait that she appreciated. Hope wasn't much for diplomacy despite her recent efforts but something she was, was a problem solver. She would prefer if everyone skipped the bullshit and was just honest so they could just get on with fixing it. It mightn't be a leadership style people were accustomed too but she didn't know how to be any other way when dealing with people. It's probably why she didn't have any friends to speak of other then her immediate family. But it seemed that list was about to get that bit smaller as Ajax spoke. The fact that he didn't know what was happening was concerning. It was hard to imagine that a vampire of his age hadn't experienced everything there was to experience. SO whatever this was, it probably wasn't good for either of them.

As Ajax began to explain about older vampires and their reasons for going to ground, her mind naturally thought of the worst. She had seen what savage vampires were like. Those driven away from Arcane and forced in the forest where, with a lack of blood they turned on each other and essentially delved into an almost feral state. It was disturbing to say the least and the thought that something similar could happen to a vampire as old and as powerful as Ajax didn't bare thinking about. She certainly couldn't defend herself against Ajax if that happened and there wasn't many she could think of who could, maybe Matthew but only because he was his fledgling and almost as old as him. She could understand why covens would want to destroy them before that happened but that wasn't an option in Hope's books. The whole point of this merger was to protect life not destroy. She had already killed one male authority in her life, she wasn't planning on killing another.

She sighed as her mind came up with a million questions. It took all of her self control to remain calm and to not just call in the towel. Every Time she thought they were finally getting ahead a little, the scales would stack even more wildly against them. A blood shortage, an impending eradication and now this. She hadn't signed up for this and she certainly hadn't signed up to do this alone. There apart of her that was screaming to just walk out of the room, grab her keys, get on her bike and just ride till she found a place where no one had ever heard of Ox Corp or the Death family or even fucking vampires. She could start over and live for herself and free herself of all this shit. She leaned over herself and took a breathe to calm herself. She knew that she wasn't about to runaway from this mess that was her life. She was the grand-daughter of KnOT Death and she wasn't going to let this family fall apart without a fight but she wished she could.

" Does anybody else know? " she asked wondering if his Coven knew what was happening and if that's why the merger had gone so well. She'd be pissed if that's what was happening. He should have been upfront with her before they came if that was the case and he was about to see a different side of her and she wouldn't care how old he was. " Do you know how long you've got? " On top of already having a ticking time bomb over them, there was now an additional one. If they were going to relocate they were going to have to find a safe place before the Eradication and before Ajax lost his damn mind. She was hoping he was wrong but she doubted it and she would rather put Ajax in the ground then kill him. She hoped there was a way to help him to stop it from happening but she had to be real. The likelihood was Ajax was going to be forced into the ground and she was going to be left dealing not only with the Death's but with the Matashina's as well. That motorbike was starting to look really good right about now.

He was eager to hear what Hope had to say on the matter yet at the same time he felt dread. Had he been aware of his decline months ago he would have never sought out Hope and her coven. He would have never done such a thing to them and he hoped that she did not think that of him, this was not some ditch effort to dump his people upon her, after all they were all old enough that if he disbanded his coven they would be able to fend for themselves. He had thought the best route for survival for both covens was for them to merger and Karne then later on Hope had thought the same thing. He was ashamed of himself, ashamed that he was not the strong pillar she needed he was broken by the thought that he would be letting them all down and that some how his mind was not only betraying himself but it was betraying them.

He knew she would feel disappointed and even angry with him and he did not blame her, she was scared and now she had to face the thought that she would eventually need to do things alone and he would not be there to guide her through the tough decisions that would fall upon them. He could have wept for that, he had grown to love Hope like his own child and he could not bare the thought of leaving her lost in a world of chaos yet that is what he feared was happening.

“No one knows..” he replied the confidence in his tone knocked slightly for the first time. He had always seemed collected and calm in front of Hope but he was worried, afraid that she would hate him for his failing the way he felt that hatred for himself.
“I do not know if that is what is happening to me, so I have not spoken a word to anyone. I did not want to alarm anyone until I knew the truth” he tried to explain himself. “I was hoping that I was just having an adverse reaction to the stress that has been placed upon my shoulders the last half decade”
Her questions were blunt and he did not feel comfortable with them. Hope usually was one of many words where as he was one of few yet now she held no conversation. She was doubting him and his intentions.
“I do not know. From what I have read it can span a number of years. Depending on the strength of the failing mind”

He had made a mistake, he should not have put Hope in this position. He had not known this would happen but he had known she was young and now he worried.
“If you would like me to aid your family in finding a safe haven then take mine else where I can. I can reverse this merger if you feel I have let you down?” he despised asking but he did not want Hope to be left with the weight of it all if she did not feel able.

H O P E . D E A T H - R E I G N

The whole time Hope had known Ajax, he had always been calm and collected, he was almost like someone from another time, like someone had gone back in time and plucked him from a time long ago and dumped him in this century. It was a credit to his character but for the first time Hope was seeing him as something less than perfect. He was vulnerable and dare she say even a little scared. It actually made him more human and oddly reassured her. Knowing he was scared too somehow made her feel better about feeling scared for the future. If a vampire like Ajax was worried then she definitely should be too and that was ok.

But this wasn't about her, this was about Ajax and what he was going through. Hope honestly had no idea what it must have been like to feel like you were going crazy although she often wondered if her family would drive her to madness. She had watched her brother and her mother suffer to their minds descent and the last thing she wanted was to watch Ajax fall to the same fate. His was almost worse as he seemed aware of it and had to live in dread of what was coming. There was a little relief in knowing that Ajax had a few years left in him and that would give them some time to focus on the Eradication first and get to safety. She could deal with Ajax after.

To Hope's surprise Ajax spoke of separating the two covens, she was assuming to ease her burden. Maybe she had been a little harsh. Afterall he had disclosed to her something he had never told anyone before and she had been cold and indifferent to him. She hadn't meant to be that way with him but with everything that was happening she had let her emotions get the better of her and she had left her empathy behind. It would make her life easier though. She, Marcus, Destiny and Knigh could survive on their own or at least she thought. They had survived this long and only being responsible for three or four was far easier then looking after the large number that was there now. It certainly would be easier to relocate four then a large group and keep them safe going forward.

Hope had many bad traits, she was selfish, hot headed and vain. She could be impulsive and she wasn't known to be the friendliest person on the planet. But if there was one thing you could say about her, it was that she was loyal and she never went back on her word. She reached over and grabbed Ajax's hand with her lips on them and offered him support once again. What was supposed to be a mentor/mentee relationship was becoming a relationship of mutual support and respect. Her face softened, a brief glimpse at the girl underneath the hard shell. " You are my family Ajax, we'll figure this out together. " she although there was still concern in her eyes. She had no fucking idea what was coming in the future but she knew they had a better chance of facing it together then apart. Besides, the Matashina's were family now whether they were Death by name or not and she wasn't about to go back on her word.

Retracting her hand, she took a moment to settle herself as she tried to come up with a game plan. Hope may have felt completely out of her depth but she worked best when she was under pressure and the this was probably the most pressure she had ever experienced and she wasn't one to shy away from anything that was hard. " Now that's settled. " she smirked as the softness disappeared as quickly as she had shown it. It was a rare sight to see the Hope beneath the hard mask and it was only shown to those she truly trusted. " I think we should focus on the Eradication and getting everyone safe before we focus on keeping you above ground. " she went on to say. She had every intention of doing everything she could to keep Ajax around for as long as possible. His coven needed him to help them through what was about to come and so did she.

" I don't to dump all the shit on them at once. " she smirked trying to hide her fears behind humour. On the inside she wanted to scream and shout and run away but she couldn't. There was no one there to hold her hand the way she held Ajax's, there was no one there she could cry too who wouldn't see it as a weakness or whom she couldn't burden with it. As of right now she was the strongest person she knew and it was a very lonely place to be. " Let's focus on Ox Corp and we'll keep this between us for now until you're ready. " It was of course up to Ajax when he told his people about what was happening to him but Hope would prefer if he kept that little bombshell to himself for now. She was going to have to tell the others about what was going on sooner rather then later and she didn't want to make it worse by adding that her mentor was losing his mind and she would essentially be doing this alone. She could only imagine the chaos that would ensue and given Ajax's mentality right now, she wanted to make things as easy as possible. If that was even possible.

Waiting for her answer he had to admit he really did not know what she would say. He was pretty good at anticipating people's responses but this was fresh for him as it was for her and she was faced with one of the most important decisions she could make to either walk away from the stability his coven offered. Even without him those left were vastly talented and strong, most of them also having walked through many human lives or she would have to choose to continue to trust his tutelage knowing that he was possibly losing his grip upon control and sanity. It was not a decision he envied and he would have thought no less of her if she wanted to flee from him as fast as she could, after all he was supposed to be their salvation and now he was nothing but a curse and an impending burden.

Her movement shocked him, her pale hand reaching across to take his, he looked into her eyes as she spoke calling him family and he smiled softly, a smile of sadness and regret. How he wished he could be the man they all needed him to be. Up until recently he had very much believed he was that man and not some shell of him.
“As long as you are sure” he bowed his head in respect as her hand was withdrawn from him. With that her conversation changed, she shifted back to talking of the Humans like nothing had happened. Despite everything she was willing to over look his faults and he respected her for it. Yet again she showed him just how strong she was and he was glad he had chosen her.

“Yes I will contact all I know and try and find out if there is anyone to help us. Or any that know of anyone who can” he repeated his earlier promise. “And we will go from there....” she wasn't going to tell anyone else about him and he nodded. The idea of the others knowing sent a chill through him, it was hard enough thinking that Hope had doubts about him let alone dwelling on the notion that they all knew.
“Yes we will keep this between us for now.... Hope one thing, while I am able to say it and am of sound enough mind to I must give you permission” he paused thinking of a better way to say what he wanted to say.
“I will not become a burden on you or anyone else... I would be ashamed to live like that” he watched her close as he spoke. “I can not live like that.... also in the event that eventually I become a danger you all have my permission to do what ever you must to ensure you are all safe”

Ajax followed suit and started to talk about the most urgent problem on hand. She wasn't trying to make light of Ajax's situation but looking at both ticking time bombs, Ajax's had a bit more time on his clock. If Ajax had a few more years and the Eradication could happen any day now, it was clear what she was going to prioritise. Once everyone was safe and they were settled, she would focus on Ajax and helping him out. In the meantime Hope would do what she could for Ajax and try to cover for him as best she could. She wasn't sure how she was going to do that exactly but she quick on her feet, she would come up with something.

However the conversation turned dark as Ajax spoke about his wishes for the future. Hope was uncomfortable with being given permission to essentially kill him if it came to it. She was suddenly having flashbacks of when Karne had shown her where they were keeping Luca and he had begged her to end him. It was one of the hardest things to do. Although she had never been particularly close to Luca, he was more of a father to her then Karne and to drive that sword into him had affected her more then she had originally thought. Honestly she didn't know if she could do it again, in fact she refused to do it again. She'd rather put him in the ground then have to end him.

It was a grim thought and Hope felt a lump in her throat, that she tried to conceal. She refused to break down now when Ajax was trying so hard to keep it together and he needed her to be strong, to be the leader he was training her to be. Not to be some girl, crying, bitching and complaining. Nodding her head, it was difficult but she would do her best to respect his wishes. " I understand. " she said, it clearly wasn't easy for her but she would want him to do the same thing for her. She had seen what madness had done to her mother and how Marcus had a nervous breakdown and that was just her immediate family. That wasn't even including the likes of Kenshu who was a whole other kind of crazy.

" I'll do my best Ajax but I mean, if it's going to get as bad as you think it might, that is going to be easier said then done. " There was no denying that unless Hope had some kind of ancient weapon that she happened to weld, she had no chance of actually laying a finger on Ajax unless he wanted her too. He was an ancient vampire and she wasn't even half a century old. There was no chance in hell of her putting him down without help or unless he was consenting. " So maybe, once we've figured out where we are going to be staying, we can come up with a plan and work from that. " this was a strange and uncomfortable conversation. She never actually planned for someone's death before and it felt so unnatural. To think a vampire as old and as powerful as Ajax was about to be defeated by his own mind, it was pitiful really and he deserved so much better.
